Question, I'm in the middle of rebuilding my S50 and noticed after I cleaned the oil squirters that the internal springs inside 3 of them are very weak. This had me thinking...was the intent to limit oil passage when the rpm's are very low so as to not starve the mains? I can see no other reason for this "check valve" system.

Second question, is there a problem reusing the ones with weak springs?

Thanks,
Don

I'm interested in this thread because I'm trying to determine what is causing my low oil pressure that happens at hot idle only. It's becoming a semi-common problem on E36's. The items left on my list are rod bearings, cam bearing ledge and main bearings.

I wonder if weak squirter springs should be on my list too.

Well, I'm hearing numbers like 7-10psi under idle conditions...with pressures that low a 1/32" diameter hole in 6 mains makes a big difference. I would imagine that the mains get the oil first on it's return from the filter.

Hopefully someone that can shed some light on this will answer.
