While I am uploading photos of my further build. I bought the car from Virginia a few years back, have seen less track time since purchase then I would of liked due to free time. When I bought the car it was T2 prepped, seen two track events, was a flood damage salvage title '99 M3 coupe w/55k on the clock. I am not going to get into all the other details right now as my main reason for starting the thread is, I am trying to get the tar out and dunno if this just me but its hard as a rock, and using brake clean isn't help get it up really. Any recommendations as to how to get it out easily?

if your talkinga bout from the inside then you have to use dry ice.

I just took it out yesterday. Use a heat gun or hair dryer, then it peels off like butter if you get a chisel behind it. Don't get it too hot, it doesn't take much heat at all to get it loose. Then take some 3M adhesive remover and wipe down the adhesive residue and it will be nice and clean.

I find it amusing that this goes two ways Heat or Cold, freeze it and shatter or heat and peal. Which is less time consuming, especially as the car has a cage and I don't have the greatest access

well due to the fact that I can't break 14 posts I can not post photos at this time. love being new to a forum. Been on for a while just don't post a whole lot. hope to have photos up soon. Thank you for your help on removing the "tar" will let you know how it goes. But I am interested as to which is the easier of the two ways.

are you saying that in the sense of where the bar is located or lack of padding? As far as padding goes I am in the middle of switching it all out.

Wow!!! You're not kidding. I would plan on relocating that dashbar (is it still called that when it is that low?:D).

Ankle bar? Relocate it up behind the dash. That's scary.

For the tar use heat and a scraper, brake clean to clean up the residue. If there ever was a knee breaker...

I didn't design the cage and its really only one of the issues with it. I always found it to be annoying. But I guess I will get that moved, just never really crossed my mind to move it. I know that sounds silly but I am just getting picky with things, before this I was just happy to have the time to actually get out in it.

Will it be the "dash" bar or the lack of proper high density roll bar padding on main hoop that will hurt you more? Hmm, who wants to play?

throw away the pool noodles (or use it on the door bars) and get this http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=2395

+1 for heat and plastic scraper. Dry ice was more hassle than it was worth.

oh noodles are gone I have high density waiting for me to cut it and put on. When I get a break in the schedule the bar is going to get moved I have made that decision.

Time to stretch, got my heat gun and a my scrapper time to goto town.

Might be an optical illusion but the cage seems to be missing the required down tubes from the main hoop to the rear. It only has an X seemingly. We fixed a cage in our shop not to long ago that came in and only had an X. Might just be a bad angle and it's kind of dark.

No you are correct. As I get more and more feedback I am glad I posted this, when I get the dash bar fixed I will have that taken care of. Any one have recommendation for a good cage builder in the greater philadelphia area?
