I searched this, but there wasn't a single post on the e46 forums on how to hookup your ipod.

Anyone know a way to hookup it up other than through the glove box?

I use the radio adapter, similar to an iTrip, where you plug the adapter into the cigarette lighter and then use the radio to play your ipod over a staticky station.

Can you still control the iPod from the click wheel? Or do you have to use the car's stereo controls?

All control is performed via the radio/steering wheel controls. the iPod's clickwheel is locked out in order to allow full integration.

Tom,

I thought there was a way to toggle between iPod controls vs. radio controls. For instance, if I'm alone in the car, I want to use the steering wheel controls. But if my wife is in the passenger seat, she'll want to use the iPod controls.

Is this something that can be easily toggled after installation?

How's the integration with iPod Touch? (She got a Touch for Christmas and I got the hand-me-down Nano)

I have a 2002 330i with the MP3-capable Alpine head unit from a 2005 3'er.

Thanks, I think the DICE will be my next mod.

There is if you turn off DICE UI, but will lose all DICE enhanced features when doing so like browsing and text display.

For the touch, I would recommend pressing the HOME button for +7 seconds while connected to the DICE, this will place it in Simple UI mode without fiddling with the DIP switches.

First let me say hello - this is my first post. I inherited a 1999 328i 4D sedan from one of my best friends this past December. My first BMW was a 2002 Z3 - then I traded it in for a 2004 325. I sold that one 6 months later - it was in the shop more than I was driving it. Now I have a 1999 with only 62k miles. This past January I replaced all 10 speakers with the set from BSW - they are great. I also updated the cassette player with a CD Business Player I got from eBay for $45.00. The guy listed it wrong so no one ever looked at it. Works great. I recently bought the Dice IPod kit and did not want to install it in the glove box or get the IPod Cradle kit for another $149.00. I bought a new eurotray to replace the cupholder and change dish - I bought the long one - the short one is too short. The tray was about $40.00 from bav auto. I also bought a 10 foot IPod link cable from DICE. My Dice unit is installed in my truck and the new link cable runs from the trunk, through the wiring hold behind the back seat, under the backseat padding to the start of the center hump rug. I removed the center console out and cut away the rug and foam underneath the back of the center console - I did not cut into the area that could be seen. I then took a coat hanger and worked it from the center console rug cutout area underneath the run and back to the seat. I pulled the 10 ft. cable through and connected the actual black ipod cable to the extension. The cable connect easily went throught the back of the tray without any cutting of the tray. If I can figure out how to post pictures I will. Having it in the tray I don;t have to worry about it being seen when parked. I have full control of the iPod with my steering wheel. The only suggestion that I have it to make sure that you set your iPod to shuffle or select a play list - if not it will start at the beginning of the a's if your car sits idle for a few days.
