I replaced the heater valve assembly on my '86 535i, and the heater's been working like a champ all winter. Yesterday though, I jumped in the beast & boom - NO heat. Not a whisper. Blower works perfectly, no funny smells or noises, and the car's running perfect. I've got NOOOO heat, at any speed or any situation.

Ideas.....?

Replace the innards of your Heater control solenoid. Shoud be about a $35 kit.

since this is an issue i doubt its the heater valve or anything that has to do with the it cuz you normally do at idle

Temp gauge normal? You may have a broken thermostat that wont' close.

Didn't the fresh air flap control on 86' change to a potentiometer and an electric motor to open up?
under the glovebox on the passenger's side next to the center column, is the fresh air flap that sometimes gets stuck.

Only for the center vent which doesn't get heat anyway........
