Question on driveshaft interchangeability.

I need one for a 79 with CR 5-spd. I have a parts car available that is a US 633 OD 5-spd with a 12/81 build date. ETK indicates the same part number for the shaft for my 79 630 (base car for the B7) and this 12/81 parts car.

However, if I pull up the parts list for a generic 79 635, I see two driveshafts listed, with a different part number for a shaft for sports gearbox 5-spds up to 07/84.

Are CR 5-spd shafts really different from OD 265 shafts? Should I buy a 1980 CR 5-spd shaft I know of, or just go get this free OD 5-spd parts car?

Thanks,
Mike

I just went through the same problem a few days ago fitting a 265 o/d box up to a 265 cr.

Yes, there are different part numbers for the different driveshafts, like at bavarian auto, but when I had both boxes next to each other they were exactly the same and the driveshaft for the 265 cr fit.

Hopefully I didn't mess anything up but it all appeared to work for me.

Good luck.

There is a slight difference in length if I remember correctly but because of the slip joint, it is not a problem. I have switched between them in the past without an issue. I also seem to remember 2 different guibos that are different thickness that might also help if there is an issue.
