hows the rear subframe.....has that been inspected? I know production cars made before feb 2000 supposedly have this problem or could potentially have it?

The rear subframe has been inspected by my local BMW dealer with no problems found.

There are 170K on the car. For maintenace I have done synthetic oil changes every 3000 and changed all other fluids once a year( coolant,brake,diff,gearbox) with factory fluids. Also forgot to mention the car comes with BMW winter and summer mats. Summer mats new last summer, and bmw winter trunk liner.

I change the oil every 3000 I guess for the same reason I only run 91 octane and wax it every three month. I just think it is the right way to take care of my cars and I am kind of crazy about my cars.

Ken great talking to you on the phone today, hopefully I will get a chance to look this car over soon.

Can anyone give me a clue as to what kind of problems I could expect buying a car that's as high mileage as this one? It seems pretty well taken care of.

The normal stuff that goes wrong with E46 in general are:
Front control arms (wornout ball joints)
Control arm bushings (excessive play)
window regulators (cables break/jam)
power steering lines (leak)
rear differenatial bushings (excessive play)
rear springs (break bottom coil of spring)
waterpump (bearing failure)
thermostat (set Check Engine Light MAP cooling fault code)

All the above items have been replaced in the last 18months in either preventive maintance or they failed.
