So what's up to all, I have posted some threads here and there the info has been more than helpful.
Well I'm back again for some more help. While shifting.I get a really strange rattle from my exhaust it stops after I apply pressure to the throttle. WTF!!! it really bothers. :mad
Also , I'm going to shimmy the valves myself what are the specs and tools I need to pick up to do so?
Thanx to all for all your help through these past two years.

Can you elaborate a bit on the shifting exhaust rattle? RPM's? Completely repeatable? How loud? How long?
Loose cat baffle, broken exhaust hanger, loose heat shield all come to mind...
Do yourself a favor and search s14.net for your valve adjustment questions. Tons of threads on it.

think that the rattle is only when I shift... sometime when I rev match, or take my foot off the throttle. at idle no problems sounds perfect.
I need to change the belts and the valve cover as well. just dont have time. Im a gm of a club in dc. It cant be the heat sheild I dont have one. and the baffle it could be. the hangers were replaced about 4000 miles ago. my maintance guy is a trained mechnic he is going to teach me to shimmy the valves whats the tools do i need and the height of the valves thats all I need... all will get done next tuesday.

google search took .032 seconds. http://e30m3performance.com/maintenance/valve_adjustment/valve_adjustment.htm
It's not as easy as a step by step makes it sound it will be the better part of a day. The tool can be had by some places online even on ebay thats about 120 bucks. The shims are ordered individual by bmw, volvo shims will work. They run about 6-8 bucks per shim, the volvo isn't much cheaper but readily avail most of the time.(many dont like the volvo ones because of their design is much harder to take in and out) You can reuse shims on your car to use in place of others that are out of tolerance. So you may get away with only needing half a dozen or so. But you gotta wait for em to come in. And your rattle can be coming from a heat sheild like stated but there is more than one. Theres one up by your engine mount exhaust side, your cat, your muffler. Check em all as a "rattle" s most likely that.

It wasn't that hard of a job. I bought used tool last year and did mine. As you know S14.net was kicking an idea of putting together a shim kit as a loaner. You replaced the valves you used and sent the kit out to the next in line.
Shims and cam lifter $200 not mine.
