Advant123 and I just got back from breaking in :devillook the 3.46 Lsd with 40% LU that BMW SOB just installed. All I can say is WOW!! I admit I was worried that it would be to much but I must say its just right. The car pulls even harder now. 4th gear literally feels like 3rd. I dont feel like the car redlines superfast either, its very controllable. Around town cruising the RPM differnce is not even noticeable. I have a 6 speed so highway is not an issue either.

I highly recommend this mod for TS equipped cars. I got the diff on sale from metrix motorsport so it was very worth while. Fortunately, Z's share the e30 diff so its pretty reasonable (for a BMW)

Total cost:
Diff $799 free shipping (fully rebuilt)
$20 to powder coat diff cover
$80 for used diff cover so I could keep my 3.23 ready (thanks Randy)
$60 install (BMW SOB FTW)

Pretty reasonable overall.

I also want to give a huge thanks to Donovan, he does stellar work. For that price why DIY!

It definatly felt awesome Joe. As you know, I was a little skeptical of the lower gear with more power but the 200rpm or so definatly moved it into the sweet spot. Defintly a huge improvement. Glad you like it.

I just have to get my car ready for Blowneuroz now... It is getting close as my car had no motor in it last week.

Its on 3/30 in Levittown PA we're going to be meeting up at Donovans this up coming sunday (23rd) for some last minute chaos on a few cars. Donovan prob won't mind if you swing by!

Oh Man, another mod I'm going to have to consider. Will it ever stop?!:rolleyes I wounder how it would feel with my 73mm pulley? The car is coming out of storage tomorrow for a short drive to Grand Rapids. I can't wait! It has been to long sense it was out in November.

awesome. i jsut got the 3.38 because the upgrade to the 3.46 was so much more. Ive been hearing about metrix for a while and would definitely try them if i wanted a rebuild. Great to hear your impressions!

Hey Guys...

JMC has such a well rounded car! The 3.46 definitely made a noticeable difference according to the "butt dyno". His car can break traction from a 2nd gear roll at practically any RPM (ok, maybe not 750 RPM). The instant TS torque combined with the more aggressive gearing makes for an awesome street car. I've spent a decent amount of time in his car with the stock 3.23 LSD and last night when we did some pulls, I had to look down at his shifter because I could not believe the car was pulling that hard in 4th gear. The new differential is fairly quiet and seems to be a good bang for the buck. Definitely highly recommended for you supercharged guys!

Pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't the 3.46 on a TS make 1st gear almost useless? With that torque combined with higher gearing. I am imagining that it would make getting the car going from a red light sort of a hassle. Tell me if I am wrong.

You TS guys running 76 and 73mm pulleys...are you guys running an 8 rib pulley setup?

We run off the factory accessory drive, 6 rib. We have two idler pulleys so we get alot of belt wrap and I have never seen any slippage. I think the smaller pulley improved belt wrap since there is now more room to move the idlers and take up belt.

Stef, it would make a nice improvement to your car, but I would see if you can live with a 3.64 since you make less torque down low and have a 2.8L
