I know this isn't really FI related, but since headgaskets are fuses for FI, I thought I'd post here.
I blew my headgasket due to age and a little bit of nitrous in december. Marco loaned me the cam tools so I could jump into the job myself. Thanks again for that Marco, and I'm sorry about the delay on returning them. Anyway, I thought this would be a 2 week job working on weekends only (car isn't with me at school) but it quickly turned into 3 months of tedious wrenching. After I pulled the head, I found out that it was cracked. After sourcing a new one (which was not easy, at least for a reasonable price,) I ran into problems little missing parts and getting the cam timing and hardware for that all spot-on. Anyway, I just slapped the coil packs on today, and filled 'er up with oil (no coolant yet) and fired it up for a second. Cranking, cranking, cranking, then a little pop and it dies. Next try, immediate start, no smoke, and very smooth idle. Lifters tick like a bitch when you fire up a dry engine that's been sitting for 3 months.
In closing, I just wanted to thank everybody in this section for your vast cache of knowledge. I would not have been able to do this without help from at least 5 different people on here.
take it easy guys, and boost on!!!!
