I'm a little concerned for my coolant and oil drain hoses being so close to my turbo. Is there a solution beside shelling out $120 on a blanket? Anyone know of a readily available solution? And do they actually help spool enough to notice? Thanks, I'll be posting pics of my work soon.

Surplus asbestos + thermal wrap :stickoutt

Just kidding. I'd probably just buy the blanket. You don't have to worry about it failing, and unless you derive great pleasure from looking at material spec sheets and then sewing it together it's probably not worth your time to do so.

You could start with a simple aluminum reflective shield like those you see used as OEM exhaust shields

If you are just running low boost, do you really need to bother? As long as you aren't taking it to the track or flogging it 24/7, it seems somewhat unnecessary

I think its necessary for underhood temps. my underhood temps were rediculous when i was bottom mount, now that im top mount it can only get worse. Especially with my down pipe hanging over/near the coils and electrical.

sorry for the thread jack.

I bought mine on ebay for 90 shipped. Summit has them too, and also not 120. Im not sure where your looking but 120 is too high.

I was riding with my friend in his Turbo M3 at the thunder hill track, and I think about the 4th heat my feet were on fire in the passenger seat cause it was so damn hot and the sheet metal is right next to the turbocharger.

If you want to do things properly, THIS IS YOUR SOLUTION TO HEAT CONTROL (http://www.swaintech.com/store.asp?pid=10296), but it's not any cheaper. If you're a cheap bastard, you can try this (http://www.reynoldspkg.com/reynoldskitchens/en/product.asp?cat_id=1337&prod_id=1789). You get what you pay for...

:lol , aluminum foil , nice. I typed in T4 turbo blanket and the only thing I found was $110 plus $10 for shipping.

It will certainly be more than the turbo blanket, but if you have a little extra coin and want some bling factor, I'd call evosport. I don't think you were really too active a couple months ago when they posted the heat coverings that they made for jon holder's car. If my memory serves me, they are made of some kind of sheet inconel which is custom molded around the manifold and up around the turbo. They said they could make some for any application, and it would be cool to see someone try that stuff for a street application.

what you guys think about jet-hot compared to swain tech. swain tech is realy expensive, and im sure whatever evosport is selling its marked up about 5x's what it should be.

:D That's awesome, it looks better than a blanket IMO and it could be pretty effective if you lined it with that reflective heat barrier stuff.

and until you realise that the heat just oozes out from the sides and everywhere else do you realise this would such ass compared to a turbo blanket. A turbo blanket is form fitted to your turbine housing. It surounds tightly every crevace of it. and it also has reflective layers. It basically becomes part of your turbine. It is much much more effective than any heat shield... especially that thing that is mainly there for bling.

I will choose function over form EVERYTIME!

swaintech is better than jet-hot. Aren't they in rochester? Makes the decision alot easier for you.

I'd be all over that if I didn't struggle so much putting the turbo on. So much that I don't ever want to take it off.
