Just got a 1994 318i convertable. body is very good. Top fair, will last a few more years. Engine very good, as is the transmission. Problem is the front end, and I knew this when I bought it. Took it by the local BMW dealership and they told me it was tie rod ends, and support arm bushings. The estimate was $2000.00 for that, new tires ans a few other minor items. Being a fair "shade tree mechanic" I figured I could do the job myself, as I know an independant that will press out the old bushings and press in the new ones. Parts were $160.00 bucks. Now, my question is this from the experts. What else should I do while I have the front end apart? Should I go ahead and replace the ball joints? what are things I should look for as far as wear? By the way, the car has 138,000 miles. Thanks Oh, if I freeze the new bushings would they be easier to press in?

You will probably get better responses in the e36 forum.

Sorry about posting in the wrong section. Have read some of the mistakes nubies make (which I should have done before jumping in) and I am right up there.
