View Full Version : E34 suspension group buy.
Binjammin 03-14-2008, 02:43 PM So I just got off the phone with FCP Groton, after talking to them about a group buy.
They have several kits listed on ebay,

For example. There is a group buy available, and it's a decent discount. They'll give a 10% discount for up to 10 people buying, add 1% per person over ten. So if we get 10 people or less, we get 10% off. If we get 11 people, that's 11%, 12 people 12%, and so on. I imagine they'll cap the discount well before we get to 100 people, but I didn't ask about free parts. This are Meyle parts, they probably won't last as long as Lemforder will, but it's a price decent enough to make it worthwhile for someone on a budget.
Post thoughts here, and if you're interested in a buy.
zemus 03-14-2008, 02:45 PM That would be cool, I may be interested.
Goathumper 03-14-2008, 02:52 PM you should know better...:nono
Lemforder or nothing
m60b30530i 03-14-2008, 02:54 PM id buy them but i have no idea how to install

Lemforder or nothing
Yeah, I know. But I'm spending so much money on my car right now, that to do Lemforder would seriously undercut all the other projects. At this price, I'll take it for a year and do Lemforder next year. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get 12 months out of Meyle part. I'm not trying to cheat my way out of a decent front end rebuild, I'm just putting it off.

Buy the kit and drive to CT, I'll give you a hand throwing it in.

This doesnt make much sense.
Money is tight so lets spend 300 now and 500 next year rather than just waiting to save up the 500. Just get a payday loan.

First of all, the irony of recommending fiscal responsibility in one sentence, then recommending a payday loan with their astounding interest rates is obviously lost on you.
Second of all, I can spend 270 now, and 600 next year. I'll have a tight front end for a year, and it will allow me to have a turbo on my car this summer, versus having to wait another year. Or paint. Or more suede. Or more stereo goodies. I have a lot of stuff to do to my car, and suspension is on the list. If I can get everything else done on the car, having to re-do the suspension next year will just be basic maintenance on the car.

Binjammin 03-14-2008, 03:23 PM Whoops. Didn't know there were rules on group buys... PMs will be sent immediately.
screwbiedoo15 03-14-2008, 03:29 PM Are Meyle parts that bad? I have some sway bar links that I'll be putting on with my m5 sway bars and am now kinda worried...
Binjammin 03-14-2008, 03:38 PM You're asking the wrong people here. People will tell you they'll fall off the car before you can install them. They will wear faster than Lemforder, but they aren't completely useless.
screwbiedoo15 03-14-2008, 04:49 PM haha k. I'm not too worried for now cause my car doesn't even get driven much at the moment since i'm in school. I just couldn't find any lemfoerder ones on bma when i ordered them. plus they were super cheap off bma
Goathumper 03-14-2008, 04:54 PM they should last the year. When i bought my car, the shop replaced all the front end parts with meyle. They lasted about 20k but when one part starts to go, it will shake the rest of them to pieces (and fast) If you do the rebuild, do all of the pieces at once (how do i know? im on my second set of control arms :()

That's exactly what I'm talking about. 20k ought to be about a year on my car. And when I go Lemforder, Everything will be changed.
Count me in, as you know.

Monastie 03-14-2008, 05:47 PM I'm in the same situation as you, but I'd rather live with the shimmy untill I can get a Lemforder kit...
Binjammin 03-14-2008, 06:20 PM Oh, I've gone from shimmy to "This might just kill me"

It takes me a couple years to put 20k on my car... so should be good for a while for me then
tonyroc14 03-14-2008, 06:58 PM local shop wanted 2500 bux for struts, shocks, and a complete suspension rebuild. How hard is it to really work on these cars?

that isn't a totally rediculous price. front end full rebuild parts are going to run ~400 bucks, new struts & springs ~700-800 depending on which setup you go with, add in the rear end bushings and suspension parts and you're at 1400 or so in just parts, maybe more depending on the manufacturer and the price the local shop pays.
that said, I'd much rather spend a weekend and the cost of the parts and do it myself
Oh, I've gone from shimmy to "This might just kill me"
Yeah well my control arm is touching the sway bar link and grinds it when I make turns so...
I'm going to buy this on Monday off Ebay if we cant find enough people.
Blitzkrieg Bob 03-14-2008, 08:16 PM Meyle is like second tier. It okay...
TRW and Moog also make the tierod ends and center links.
The bushings can come from all sorts of places, Ocap, Febi, Meyle, Karlyn etc.
But if you have more skill and time then money, the cheap stuff makes sense...
I have some of the famous Hambrug Tech stuff on my cars and it's still holding on...And we have the 2nd worst roads in the USA.
I think some of the complaints regarding the cheaper parts come from novice DIY installations, thus premature failure.
I'll have a tight front end for a year,
Better than a loose rear end
screwbiedoo15 03-14-2008, 08:51 PM Better than a loose rear end
amen. but i think we all prefer tight front and rear ends...
Racerhoze 03-14-2008, 09:30 PM I just got finished installing all these parts on my car, I will post a detailed install thread with pictures and brands of parts.
Ichbinsobose 03-14-2008, 09:44 PM Please do^^
I need all of these parts so I will get in on a GB for 100% sure, I would rather get all lemforder parts but I have never seen a complete package deal like this with tier 1 parts. :(

r1101r 03-15-2008, 12:36 AM i am really interested but funds are low....
zubbie 03-15-2008, 07:59 AM I'd actually be more interested in a group buy Lemforder kit from BMA

please please please please!
and they should have it as a set on their website...
tonyroc14 03-15-2008, 05:37 PM so are we still down? I need these. wanted 1200 bux just for the tie rod ends, thrust arm bushings, and lower control arms. ill save about 600 bucks going this route.
I am but it looks like we need ten people.
5271990 03-15-2008, 06:45 PM Oh, I've gone from shimmy to "This might just kill me"
Don't you find it a little nice?
In my friends E34 his 60mph rattle is pretty violent, takes some concentration to not get a chubby :rofl
tonyroc14 03-15-2008, 08:23 PM well i couldn't wait. I just purchased plan #2. Complete front end, and rear end for 400 dallars, isn't that great! Plus i get free shipping! So sorry guys, count me out. I needed the parts. Has anyone else ever used these parts? I want to know of their quality, as they are rather cheap. Thank you
Binjammin 03-15-2008, 10:48 PM I am but it looks like we need ten people.
Ten people weren't needed, the deal was 10% for the first ten people, then 1% for each additional person over 10, so for 2 or 9 or 10, it's 10% off.
I must have misread that <_<
I'm going to bite the bullet on option #1 on Monday either way. Need some SoCal peeps available to help me out if I bork something! Holler!
bmwpower 03-16-2008, 04:23 AM Guys, just make sure you torque all the stuff AT ride height and you should be fine.
Paying $1k+ for the Lemfoerder stuff made me sick, but hopefully it will last longer...I drive 36K+ miles a year.
Looks like the kit posted has the M5 aluminum control arms...interesting.
Does anyone for sure want to buy either option one or option two please PM me so we can do this!
tonyroc14 03-16-2008, 01:35 PM Does anyone for sure want to buy either option one or option two please PM me so we can do this!
i bought option two last night, but can't pay till monday, so maybe he'll still do the discount. Im useing mastercard thats why i cant pay, they have to be open...
Maybe I'll mention I'm from bimmerforums and give me the discount too!
Whackamac 03-16-2008, 01:52 PM Well hmmmmm.... I got some upper controls from them in april/may of last year. I now should have replaced them about 4 months ago. I drive a bit heavy, but not that bad.
Personally, I am getting lemforder when I order my shocks next week... It's just not worth it. And thank you Dell... :D
tonyroc14 03-16-2008, 02:16 PM they lasted you a year? with heavy driving? Thats all i need them for anyways, about a year.
The ebay link ended and it says they have no more items for sale. What do I do now?
Racerhoze 03-16-2008, 08:59 PM http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=960154
Here is my install with the FCP kit
Damn all I need to do is find the kit and I will be ready to go, the item ended :(
tonyroc14 03-16-2008, 09:40 PM hmm, thats weird, when i bought mine, it said they had 10 in stock(option 2) so they probably ran out. If i were you, i would by the complete rebuild. Im going to be selling off a few things so i can buy struts and shocks, to knock those out while im under there. Then in need a new steering pump, and tranny gasket, and then....i love this car
No I think they just had 10 available but the auction ended. They'll relist soon..........hopefully.
tonyroc14 03-16-2008, 10:01 PM yea, they open on monday! lol. Maybe you need to mentio bimmerforums, that way we can both get 10% off.
tonyroc14 03-16-2008, 10:29 PM k, let me know what they say, or if they respond today.
m60b30530i 03-17-2008, 07:59 PM i need this now  today i was braking hard from 60 and THE SHIMMING :bawling:finger22occurred. NOOOOOOOOO:eyecrazy

and y wont any mechanics look at my car they like shit them selves when i say M60 :nono
I'm going to hold off on this. I secured a long-term contract today that puts me within range of purchasing a newer 3-series or an e39 M5 :D
so how exactly is the group buy setup? Do we put our names on a list and then order all at once? I'm in for a kit. My car isnt road ready yet but Im sure installing all of these new parts cant hurt :)

ThreeM30s 03-26-2008, 09:04 AM I like the alloy lowers, they seem to last. The front swaybar links went bad as the rubbers perished **in the box** as I waited 3 months before installing them last time. I don't trust their 750iL bushings to be the real deal, but if they go I have a set of polyeurethane ones to put in. For $300, it's a steal.
I need the centre tie rod, alloy lowers, thrust arms, pitmans and rear subframe mounts. In Lem, the lower alloys and tie rod (now they supply a TRW part anyhow) would cost this much....
So you can count me in BJ: FCP quoted me $80 to ship to Oz- not bad at all.
I'd suggest the order be sent with **strict instructions** not to supply crappy swaybar link rubbers like they did (with me) last time... and we'll all have to see how long the bushes last! However at this price, one can easily buy M5 bushes to replace these ones from day1!
