Clearcoat on my drivers door only has started crazing badly in the past month. Always garaged even at work. Any one had this problem? Any factory bulletins?

Thanks for any info/help

Not aware of any large-scale problems with this. Are you still under warranty? Even if you're not, perhaps they'll take care of it under goodwill.

Anything heating/cooling that side of the car in particular?

Never have this problem and my car is park outside. I suspect this car was in an accident which replaced the door. The body shop did a bad job.

Thanks for the response. No accidents. I do live at the beach and have tried to think of something that may be related. At first I thought blowing sand but duh not just on the door so quickly dropped that thought. The car is never subjected to anything intense enough ( heat/cold)to cause this.
Again thanks!

The salt and sand might be doing damage.

Follow up. Crazing "apparently" due to some excessive stress during assembly. Is from factory. BMW will pay for wet sand and repaint of door. $800. to get it done right with paint blend front and rear. Will go this route. Glad to hear no one else has had a similar problem.

Glad to hear they're taking care of it for you. See? BMW is NOT an evil empire after all!

I'm surprized they are doing that for a 2003.

I had a strange paint problem a year or so ago on my o3. When they were deciding to replace the top, the BMW rep noticed that the paint was what he called "breaking" in the trunk drip well and the under-hood area. It's not a finished paint, but a duller coat under the trunk and hood. It was literally breaking off the car and falling off in big flakes. He said it was a common problem from the factory. They ended up repainting under the hood and trunk. I didn't even specifically ask for this. I've had wonderful luck with my dealership. Joe-Self BMW of Wichita. (can I say that?)..

Sorry. I was not clear. I am paying the$800 from my pocket to get it done at a pro. paint shop. BMW will only do the door, not the panal blend that should be done.
