Ok so I was planning on putting new coilpacks, Valvecover gasket, and Oilpan gasket on my '92 525i with 157,xxx miles on it.

Should I just go ahead and grab the headgasket kit, and change the headgasket as well? Or will the headgasket stay good for sometime longer as long as I keep up with oil changes using synthetic.

Sure, now's as good a time as any. Change your clutch, and the bearings in your rear end too while your at it. And rotate the air in your tires.

If a headgasket is not giving you problems, why take on the job and give yourself problems?

Just not sure if the headgasket has an expected lifespan on the M50 motors.

I had one with 200k on OE head gasket and no signs of failure. Dont do the HG unless you have a reason too or are just bored. You will most likely have to machine the head once its off and you need new head bolts too. If you have an extra $3-500 and a lot of spare time, go for it.
