Is there any way to check the oil without running the engine on an 07 3.0 Si?

I notice that if the engine is not running and I press the button, it will just so "OK" without going throught the normal 10 second process. I don't think that it is actually measuring the oil level at this point. Is it just replying with the last measurement?

My 06 will never say ok unless I have been driving for a few min. If I push it when it's cold or just started it scans and scans and then shuts off and never gives me an ok.

I would rather have a dipstick...
