If we had one....hehehehe.....

What would you all like to see be done or discussed? A basic "how to" on properly washing a car will be a major topic and will be broken down into sub categories. What other issues should we cover? Your input will be greatly appreciated. ;)

Propper clay'ing, types of washing/drying materials to use (micro fiber, foam, terry cloth, wash mits, ect..), good buffer systems and techniques.

Lots of E30s here with paint that is either destroyed, or begining to fade and oxidize. How about ways to revive or somewhat bring back a little shine to a few faded spots.

That's what was happening to my car...on the hood, roof, and trunk lid.
I fount the best way to bring the shine back was to get a paint job...a cheap one! :D

I will second the request on proper claying techniques.

Given time, a complete detail would be good. That would include proper care of seats and other interior parts as well as exterior. Guess that is more than a one day clinic can handle.

Mines really not bad, but the roof and the top of the front bumper are starting to get the white spots...luckily the car is "Sterling Silber" so it doesnt really show that bad.

I thought they covered that at the AARP meetings.

Proper claying added to future detail clinic.

So we have:
1) washing
2) clay bar procedures/techniques

What about Jeff's P car?

i think the finish on that is better than on the blazer...

my mom was using it for a while (read as: no wash/wax), and it got parked out in the sun, and was exposed to sprinkler water :(

i know you feel my pain for when other family members take the cars and just neglect them...

I think I need a tetanus shot everytime I look at Jeff's doors. Btw, that's your mom so it's okay. Sisters on the other hand deserve a slap. :mad

ah yes- the intricate rim job...an activity i always find rewarding :D

i dont see any difference in claying the regular paint vs. the rims...i clayed my rims each time i did the paint, but i had a separate claybar just for the rims, since they seemed to pick up more contaminants...

and no purvurts here, just perverts...

p.s how bout chrome lips.

BUWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA...sometimes you guys just make it too easy...:D

thanks for the edit. on a serious note how often do you clay your car?

poser
03-13-2008, 07:35 AM
i'm not as meticulous as some guys here when it comes to detailing cars, but i usually do it twice a year on my cars that i care about...

i used to wax my cars monthly, but now i use rejex for wax, and i usually apply that every 3 months or so...even on the rims...

As for the demo car I'll probably bring moms 97' M3 to keep things mutual. It wouldn't be time efficient to do a full car detail of mentioned stages. So I'll be demonstrating on the hood and answer questions in between.

That sounds like a good plan. I am sure some of the guys would like you to make suggestions about what needs to be done on their cars.

I'm usually pretty good at detailing and I've done several car shows too.
However, the one thing I never do is machine buffing.
Not because I think a better buff can be had with hand waxing and buffing... but because I'm scared I may screw up and mess up the paint.
I'm sure that there are several others out there that don't machine buff for the same reasons.
So... I say... "properly using a machine buffer" should be added to that list. :)

+1 I know people who have horror stories about burning the paint on their car, from using a electric buffer.:eyecrazy
