So I've got an '88 528e while my car is in the shop, and the interior dome light is dead. I tried replacing the two 12V 10W bulbs at work today, but that didn't solve the problem. Anyone have any ideas? I have very little E28 knowledge.

Check fuses for interior lights.

Is it a dark red color? If so, I just passed you in a red, slammed jetta. :)

I will check the fuse, but it doesn't seem like that's it because all the other interior lights work.
Edit: Nope, all the fuses look good.

Nope, it's jet black. Is that a Jetta III with TSW's?

If that's the same guy I'm thinking off, he lives (or lived) on Ashbrook road in Exeter, about a mile from my house, I drive by it all the time.

no wing on that dub lol

Back on toppic:
Pull the housing off and see if the wire are connected behind it. Or did it work before you acquired the car? and who loans out an E28? lol

My indy does lol. I have no idea when it last worked, I don't think it ever has for him either, but he hasn't fixed it. Yes, both wires were connected. Fuses are fine, and the bulb filaments look good as well, although the bulbs are a little discolored. I'm surprised at this car, a few things don't work but for a 20 year old car with over 200k, it runs great. I kinda like it.

Position for the switch is OK? There is an OFF position, you do realize? Other two are ON and ON WITH DOOR OPEN.

Yeah the switch was a no-go in all positions. I've talked to him since and it turns out it's a problem behind the dash. At least I tried!
