Somewhat bumpy ride.
Struts run $549 and shocks $114.00.
How do you know it struts need to be replaced?

Do a visual inspection. If you see any leakage then it's time for replacement.

Check by rocking the front and rear up and down and if the car doesn't stomp bouncing shortly after 1 bounce after you let go then they are pretty much toast.

The fronts aren't going to leak, they are shock inserts, not strut assemblies.

If he's talking about an e36 the leak as they are not rebuildable. Shop around prices are better.

if you hit a bump and keep bouncing afterward, its time to replace them. The suspension should immediately soak up the impact, without any reciprocation after the initial rebound stroke.
