View Full Version : Time to introduce myself. Racing in the 24 Hours of LeMons
Schnit 03-12-2008, 09:24 AM Hi everyone, my name is Tyson from Minnesota.
Recently bought a very rust free 82 320i 5spd for $200 (guy was aksing $500) that I'm going to be running in the 24 Hours of LeMons in 2009. (I ran a Mitsubishi in 2007, and won't be able to make this year's Ohio event)
I'm new to BMWs but not to building up foreign cars.
If anyone knows of any used E21 performance suspension bits that are for sale (rules require that I spend no less than about $400 on modifying this car), or any components for the vented front swap or rear disk swap please let me know.
You can see the car, some pics and a little more info on the link in my sig.
Thanks
turb02 03-12-2008, 10:34 AM Sweet score!!
blitzed310 03-12-2008, 10:39 AM This guy is selling some Eibachs for $100 http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=956641
And Red Ribbon Army is selling some used KYB shocks. There are also a couple DIY's for urethane parts, and some urethane bushings for the car that don't cost to much.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.
Schnit 03-12-2008, 01:23 PM How in the hell did I miss that?!?! I've been checking this site 2-3 times a day.
Thanks for the FYI, hopefully I can get em!
320 bimmer 03-12-2008, 01:57 PM nice, welcome man, nice find on that 320 too.
welcome, lol 24 hour of lemons sounds fun. is it?
Styk33 03-12-2008, 11:24 PM How many miles are on the car and does the odometer work? The wheel size is the same as a lot of Hondas (4x100), just need a spacer because of the odd offset. To bad you are so far away, because Chassis Works in Sacramento, CA has cages for the E21 :) Well, they will next week when I send in the dimensions. $339 for a 14 point.

$339 for a 14 point? Sure you don't mean 4 point?
Ive got a local guy that I know who quoted me $850 for an 8 point (he does really really good work and the cages are about as close to the roof and doors as you can get). Also was asking about a possible sponsorship, so the price is something I might get lowered
Styk33 03-13-2008, 12:00 AM This is not installed. This is for the the raw materials that are bent, notched and ready to weld. Their prices on cages are cheaper than I can buy the raw materials. You can also look at their catalog on page 52. There price in the catalog is $314 for a 14 point. I am having to pay extra since they don't have one already made. I feel like I should get a discount, but it is already cheap compared to making everything myself. I have only made a cage from scratch once. That was before I found this shop. I would go with the 14 point ( and leave out 2 attachment points) to help stiffen up the front end on the 320. Either that or a good box tube strut tower brace. My car is super loose, but then again I still have some crappy shocks. We will be hitting the track with our car to test it out later this year.
Styk33 03-13-2008, 12:01 AM Here is the link since I now have 15 posts :) http://www.cachassisworks.com/iwwidb.pvx?;multi_item_submit?FORM_SELECT=C?CAT_LV L=0?CAT=CHASISWORK Find "roll bars and roll cages" on the sidebar menu on the left.
winstontj 03-13-2008, 12:09 AM save your $$ for later on in the game. People will donate if you stick around.
Look for a volvo with vented fronts on a 1/2 price day. cut stock springs down if you don't go with coilovers, I have some spare parts - what do you need? I'm in the process of acquiring parts for an e21 and a 2002 build so I might be able to spare a thing here or there. USPS flate rate boxes work well.
Can you score a 2.0L carbureted motor on the cheap? I have one but it's in Boston...
Styk33 03-13-2008, 12:15 AM Brakes are excluded from the cost of the car/modifications as they are safety equipment :) Here is the brake upgrade to do. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/785257/6
bam2002 05-16-2008, 08:26 AM Hello
We also have a team together. And the car is almost finished. We have entered the July SC event. We are running a e30. The car is not painted or "themed" yet, but the cage is installed.
