So I am moving and I will be needing to commute a little ways everyday...about 75 miles round trip ALL FREEWAY with little traffic.

Needless to say...I would like to do this at higher speeds, but not excited about the mileage my M would incur.

I drove a very nice 86 325 5spd with 80k on it...drove very nice.

Do you think it would fit the bill? Is there enough power to cruise say 80-85mph? What kind of mpg?

Either way its not a bad choice. The 325i will have pretty decent power, the 325e will be extremely slow but get better economy. You should check out the one Brad (autoxfreak) is selling.

I drive 52 miles each way daily in my E30. Mostly freeway, not a lot of traffic. No problems. I also drive it from Houston to Dallas and back about once a month, and I drove it to Austin from Houston for dinner on Monday. A couple of weeks ago I even drove it to College Station for a track event at TWS, ran a few laps with it at the track, and then drove home to Dallas that evening! Aside from my buzzing shifter (replacement coming soon), I quite enjoy the drive. I'm not really wild about putting all those miles on, but I intend to keep this car for a long time, so it's not a huge issue.

I actually like the fact that I can get my car up to temperature and open it up a little bit every day. I like to think that makes up for parking it at the airport most weekends.

I have a 92 325i and I am using it as a DD. I set the cruise control around 80mph and it shows constant 25 mpg / the computer shows 21.7mpg.. I do most highway and my commutte is about 25 miles each way.

Just did a 950 mile trip in my M3 and it's fine. Perfect size and good on fuel. I got 27 MPG on 3 tanks with one tank devoted to mixed driving.

e30 seems like economical car, same as a 1998 civic.
