View Full Version : Video: Downdraft DCOE for M20?

Hey guys,

I was looking at a video (see link below) of an Alpina E21 running an M20 with what appears to be a set of downdraft DCOE (ala Posrche or V12 Ferrari). This obviously solves the problem of the carbs hitting the brake booster with the sidedraft - anyone knows more about this?

BTW, the video was shot in Santiago, Chile - so I don't know anything about the owner or car.

DCOE's can't be pointed down. There's plenty of webers that can though, they're probably IDF's.

Great, IDFs it is - where do you get the manifold and is this stock for an Alpina? The whole point to this post is that there is another way to do it that won't interfere with the brake booster as it does with the DCOE setup.

Pierce manifolds sells the part to fit 3 x 40 idf weber . Solves the problems with the stacks and the distributor on a M20. I have side draft dcoe x3 on a 323i and you have to take off the front carb to change the cap and rotor the stacks hitting the boster are not as much of a problem .

Thank you! that helps a lot; do you know the part number for the manifold? I can't find in Pierce Manifolds site.

yes i do have the same set up for the most part. The only difference is im running 44 internals. as for the cover, it says 320/6 on the top. I have the original aftermarket brochure for the whole set up. i very well could use the cover and make a carbon fiber replica if you really needed.

I've run this setup on a daily driver for a lot of years. Can't beat the sounds!

Rick, yours looks like the old MkMotorsport setup. Someone's got scans their old catalog posted somewhere.

Thank you for the help, Rick! Where did you get the manifold to adapt the IDF carbs to your M20 - I know Pierce has been mentioned, but what about part number and cost? And yes, that cover would be ideal for driving the car on the street.

I checked Pierce (http://www.piercemanifolds.com/Catalogpages/bmw.htm) site and I can't see the IDF manifold for the M20 - is it not listed there; must I call?

Hi everybody, I'm preparing a 320 E30 with carbs like showed in the video for tarmac rallyes here in France, I've just bought the same kind of manifold for vertical carbs

First, welcome to the board, we're all glad to have you....

Now, you're bringing the thread back from the dead to tease me?

All I would like to know is:

WHO HAS A PART NUMBER FOR THE IDF MANIFOLD FOR THE M20???

I'm sorry if I sound pissy, I'm not - just can't believe how difficult this is! :D

here's the manifold I bought It used to be a one piece part but it has been cut in three for an easier fitting I guess.

I got a relative running this set up on his tarmac car (ex BMW France car) I can join a picture if someone is interested.
It's engraved "CHADIL 216 BMW" on it
