View Full Version : .:DDM - Happy Birthday to Me, Happy Birthday to Me! DEPO Price Drop Coming 3/30/08
jsp98m3 03-11-2008, 11:26 AM As we continue to hand out totally free money to previous buyers back to February 15th (Have you EVER heard of vendors doing this??) to compensate buyers of previous packages. We wish to celebrate the short and magnificent life of our $199.00 BMW DEPO E36 Projector Package.
Yes, friends, the $199.00 package pricing has to come to an end.
I know, I'm sad too. I love this little guy and I'll miss him.
But then again, I'm going to kill him myself. On my birthday, March 30th. I'm pre-announcing this to give all of you time to consider this sad day and prepare yourself. We have announced the death of previous packages and compensation so you too can mourn the passing of great deals.
On March 30th, I won't be able to offer any of you compensation.
But I can offer you more incredible pricing. How good? How about Genuine BMW DEPO Gen-4 E36 European Ellipsoids with DDM HID for a price of $135.00?
Click here, scroll to the bottom of the page to order. (http://www.ddmtuning.com/e36lipa1.html)
Oh no, you can't! Oh hell yes, I can. And I'm doing it. I might even do it for less, we'll see, cause its my birthday and I can do it if I want. This is not a sale, this will be a new package price. You can order from any Apexcone/DDM retailer at this price also. Delivery will be from DDM Tuning inventory. Order whenever you like, but shipping at this price will not begin until March 30th.
So stop your orders, do whatever you want. But this will be the new pricing. And then, we'll get around to some news on Apexcone systems just in time for tax-time, April 15th.
jsp98m3 03-11-2008, 11:27 AM Mods, please close the other lighting threads as requested.

*Edit You're gonna throw in the mycarr rings too right Jim ;)
n2oo1 03-11-2008, 12:40 PM Is there any way I can upgrade to 55w DDM HIDs? Also can I opt for smoked lamin-x rather than clear?
bmwsmurf 03-11-2008, 01:05 PM damn. I'm definitely lining up. also curious about the 55watts.
jsp98m3 03-11-2008, 01:15 PM I'll add some more options to the website. I was coding it this morning and ran out of time. Mycarr angel eyes are free with any order over $150 as stated before. But, we need dinero to install free product. If you want to do it yourself, just ask for the Mycarr angel eyes and they'll be in the box.
I need to get some quotes out for our other business lines this morning. I'll update the website after lunch. If you can't wait, call in please. I really have to take care of some other things right now though. 858-565-1742

jsp98m3 03-11-2008, 01:28 PM I went ahead and added some stuff to the website for you guys anyway. Now I'm defintely going to go hide.

///w3fl3x 03-11-2008, 01:56 PM Wow happy bday Jim. :)
Definitely will pick up some for the 325 now.
Oh and does the lbf fix on your site work?
I ordered HID for both my 95 m3 and 95 325i last summer and got lbf for both cars. Both have 18 button obc and are late production 95's.
I got the fix from leif but it didn't work on my cars. :(

Its all kinda a crap shoot, I have tried everything and none of them work for my car, but I have heard of it working on other peoples cars. I now get the LBF with my stock plastic headlights and halogen bulbs. So at least in my case something is wrong with my car, not the HID's.
Patiently waiting for the incredible offer...Excellent just excellent!
Jim, I see your company is called DDM...my user name is up for sale...:lol
How about we do a swap for goods? LOL...

jsp98m3 03-11-2008, 03:45 PM BTW, the FREE Mycarr angel eyes offer is for E46/E36 units. You can have either one. If you don't like angel eyes but you have some buddies with an E46, order your headlights and ask for free E46 angel eyes.
I wanted to have something free and useful to give to customers for our appreciation of your business. It was this or a keychain. And no, I don't have keychains ;)
APXDDM 03-11-2008, 03:46 PM Awesome thanks for you interest! And yes our lbf work, I am sorry to hear that they did not work on your cars. What color lbf do you have, we have new black lbf that work on more cars then our old white ones. If that still does not work we will refund you your money. Sorry for the inconvenience. And please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks-Zach

And amazingly enough, not only are we making money on it, we can sell these wholesale and make money on it.
So if you guys talk all the retailers into never selling these packages, I CAN MAKE THEM EVEN CHEAPER. ;)

Pswirley 03-12-2008, 12:23 AM WTF Jim!?! Marcus is Jim turning 76 on the 30th. I ask because thats about the time my grandpa flipped his rocker and starting doing crazy stuff like mowing the grass in his underwear and driving to the grocery store and calling me from a payphone to ask what I wanted for Easter. Jim has officially lost it.
I got my refund. Thanks Marcus. Any word on the interior xenons?
///RBR 03-12-2008, 12:31 AM Wow... just wow!
I've been gone for a few months, and didn't know the extent of the price reduction or how far it has gone down.
These prices are just insane. :eyecrazy
jsp98m3 03-12-2008, 12:38 AM This is just one car model. We've been having some fun with the E39 too. And angel eyes for all models. Free Mycarr angel eyes is our gift to everyone.
I really need to take care of some other business stuff this week. But I'll be back by the weekend working on E46 lighting and we have a lot of new stuff coming in over the next several weeks. Basically its a container a week until late April. And I'm sure I'll be shopping a lot during that time and the stuff will just keep rolling in. Once we get the major cars covered, we'll start in on some of the secondary ones.
Stand by for some more stuff tomorrow. But tomorrow is also another day for me with Neil, the Customer Communications guy. We have to get some more graphics online and tested out and he's working on some more things that I think everyone will find very interesting.
Jim

Sure, they are all the same price as long as you do not want a D2S kit or a hi/lo kit. Those will cost you extra.
Jim
jsp98m3 03-12-2008, 10:41 AM Jim or Marcus .. any news on the PM I sent to you guys yesterday?
I'm trying to get Zach and Marcus to answer all of my PMs. I'll chase them today.
Monday was an insane order day and there were literally hundreds of phone calls.
Tuesday, the online orders were above normal, phone calls were down but walk in store traffic was way up with people coming in all day with trucks and hauling out bumpers, Projector46 sets and accessories by the ton.
I think I'm going to have to pop for a sign out front and our name on the door.
Until then, locals, just walk into Suite A and yell, "Gimme some deals, you crazy fools!"
I also bought the gang a new Bose soundsystem for the office last night, bring your iPod or a DVD over and entertain yourself in the media area while you wait for your stuff. I think I'll be getting a new TV soon. So maybe we'll bring the 50" into the office and set up XBox and PS3 games. Kind of like our old Open Garage Saturday's. Most days there's a community use iMac 24 available too. So you can even go online and post feedback on the spot.
Now if only my wife could be talked into making snacks...
VNG704 03-12-2008, 10:53 AM how many of these do you have? I want a set in a week or two.
jsp98m3 03-12-2008, 11:20 AM At this price, they all ship on my birthday, March 30th. The price will continue after that. But there will be no shipments at this price before March 30th.
Quantity limited to several hundred at once and as many as you like after that.
I invested $20,000 in just mirrors a few weeks ago. Imagine how much money I put into bumpers, HID, headlights, etc.
I'm not fooling around, prices have been controlled at an obscene rate for much too long. Now, they are normal. These are not sale prices nor temporary. This is where they were supposed to be at for the past 7 years.

Hey Jim, I stopped in to pick up my rear M5 bumper and blackout grill on monday. I must havce missed you there, but Leif set me up. What else you got coming up for the E39 guys?? M5 mirrors are hopefully coming soon. :D
Thanks for all the deals and great service each time I've come in to your shop!
3SeriesPLZ 03-12-2008, 01:07 PM I havent ordered from you guys yet..... BUT I LOVE YOUR SITE. Now if only I could could find exhaust I can afford. WINK WINK.
jsp98m3 03-12-2008, 01:53 PM Mirrors for E39 will be available by Friday I think. I need to get them out of the shipping and get some pictures taken.
I want to test fit them too and write up some install instructions. I can't really remember what the factory instructions looked like or how good the illustrations and English were. After a while, some things get to be a blur and and I have to pop the boxes to see what we have.
abracadaverrr 03-12-2008, 01:59 PM i ordered your Headlight Package Basic DEPO Headlight Package #1
and you said it only takes 1-2 days to ship to southern CA, but its been a week.

Get with Leif and figure this out. I know we were shipping DEPOs same day or next. This sounds like we're waiting for some information and maybe we have a disconnect.

Hi Roberto.
I left you another voice mail. I know you are getting frustrated by the lack of reporting by Fedex. I think Zach is leaving you a PM too.
Fedex tracking shows pickup yesterday at 4:05pm and arrival at the Fedex facility at 7pm'ish. It wouldn't surprise me if you got it tomorrow, Friday at the latest.
I apologize that this is taking you a few extra days to ship. When you bought additional items in the Email Auction House, we pulled your bumper off the dock and repack ALL of the goods into the bumper box. This saved you an additional $20 in shipping probably. I'm sorry it cost an extra d plus the next morning in shipping without someone calling to let you know.
I hope you like the products when you receive them.
Please feel free to return my call if you have any more concerns, we want to be very good vendors on a consistent basis.

artifact 03-12-2008, 06:27 PM Marcus, did you get my order that we discussed through PM's yesterday processed? Just anxious for everything to get here :stickoutt :)
jsp98m3 03-12-2008, 06:40 PM It just so happens that I personally know a marketing manager at a tire factory in China. What's that name? Oh yeah, Kumho...
First the wheels, then the tires. At least some of the tires. A lot of the tires have distributor agreements in place. And then, there are others that don't.
And then again, it costs almost nothing to make a new mold to put another name on the sidewall.
I'm telling you, the world is changed. And its looking up to be a car guy.

LeMansGTS 03-12-2008, 10:24 PM Thanks for your help today Jim. Were you guys able to ship out that passenger side DEPO glass lens today?
95///M3 03-12-2008, 10:39 PM Put the bottle down Jim.... I still remember the day sending a deposit to gauge interest in LED AE's that was lucky enough to file the grooves on. I have a question for you on some HID's I bought a bit ago and was fitting into an Audi Q7. Best time to call the shop tomorrow?
Jimmy
Boris1111 03-12-2008, 11:42 PM You DDM guys are just beyond awesome, finally someone comes out that understands paying 250$ for an M3 bumper, 50$ for a dumb grill to put into it, and another 40$ for moldings or 400$ for Euro-spec headlights and angel eyes is beyond stupid, especially for a 12 year old car.
I just bought a bumper from you guys and my order for some new headlights is incoming soon :b_yellow
FSUhorizon 03-13-2008, 06:49 AM I just had a question about the base warranty on the 199.00 package. I ordered it last night with upgraded 55w ballasts and a second 55w d2s kit. I'm guessing that the warranty is one year. Please let me know. I'll pay for an extended warranty if there isn't at least a one year on this package. Thanks and the ordering process was easy/pleasant.
HellRot Roundel 03-13-2008, 08:24 AM I just got my old $199 package on the 11th...
You guys wanna cut me a deal on some HIDs?:help BTW, if wheels and tires show up, I dont think I'd be able to resist...:D
CT Sean 03-13-2008, 08:31 AM ugh you're killing me here, just when I was ready to buy a basic pair of Depo's you do this :D It was easy to not get HIDs when they were extra $100, extra 35 now that;s something to consider
Quick question, is this still all pre-installed? (minus say the AE rings, not into those)
ALSO, Anyone who got the 199 package have any pics of this kit in action?
jsp98m3 03-13-2008, 10:34 AM Thanks for your help today Jim. Were you guys able to ship out that passenger side DEPO glass lens today?
It is going today. We are sending out two spare lenses today.
Don't break anymore. I think these are the last two we have from Fedex scratch and dent sales.

jsp98m3 03-13-2008, 10:35 AM I just had a question about the base warranty on the 199.00 package. I ordered it last night with upgraded 55w ballasts and a second 55w d2s kit. I'm guessing that the warranty is one year. Please let me know. I'll pay for an extended warranty if there isn't at least a one year on this package. Thanks and the ordering process was easy/pleasant.
Base warranty is one year.

jsp98m3 03-13-2008, 10:38 AM I just got my old $199 package on the 11th...
You guys wanna cut me a deal on some HIDs?:help BTW, if wheels and tires show up, I dont think I'd be able to resist...:D
We've been cutting deals for everyone. Send an email in to techsupport@ddmtuning.com and lay out your story. These emails get saved up and mid afternoon when the phone traffic is down, we look at them and see what we can do for people.

LeMansGTS 03-13-2008, 11:10 AM It is going today. We are sending out two spare lenses today.

Thanks a lot Jim, I will be purchasing the newly priced kit before your birthday. If I were to get the Ellipsoid/HID/DDE/Laminix package, would it be possible to switch the H1 kit to the H11 kit?
Happy birthday, by the way.:buttrock
LeMansGTS 03-13-2008, 11:12 AM It just so happens that I personally know a marketing manager at a tire factory in China.
I'll be in on this if it happens as well. Cheaper rims and tires for auto-x.:stickoutt

You can have any bulbs you like. Just one note of caution. On the order, and on the invoice, H1 and H11 look surprisingly similar in small type on a computer screen. When you order, it would be good to either order by phone or to call in immediately after ordering to make sure your invoice gets highlighted in about 3 different ways or even walked through by us.
I see where you are going and habits along with lazy eyes will make the order entry girl and the shipping people believe that the H11 eleven they see on the order is H1. And then they'll drill and preinstall the HIDs into the headlights.

:rofl Yea I want to give the HIDs to my brother for his GTO.
MrChaos 03-13-2008, 12:08 PM I bought some Depos, P.Cs and HIDs from .. ahem.. another company :( and have some issues like busting off the corner lamp clips and one of my rings not lighting up even after hard wiring the inverters. Also, not happy with the cutoff and managed to get the pass. projector off it's alignment track thing. So..
I planned on ordering another set from DDM + 55w HIDs to do cutoff mod and get some better inverters. However, now I see DDE 'super-gen-X' or whatever is about to come out. Can you give us any details about these or when they might be released? I really want another set of projector headlights with lit rings and 55w HIDs but I don't want to have another "should have waited" moment when these new DDEs come out.
jsp98m3 03-13-2008, 01:09 PM Man, this is a tough one. Being completely honest, here's the breakdown on DEPO -vs- Apexcone ellipsoids.
DEPO light pattern is probably 5-10% better.
Apexcone plastic doesn't break very easy but it can be done. Ruggedness, +15% or more to Apexcone.
Apexcone wiring is correct, not skewed 90 degrees
Glass etc is almost exactly the same. Ours have less markings on the glass.
For the Angel Eyes, our Mycarr angel eyes are the same ones sold by other companies except they have a chrome backing plate. Everything else is the same. In 30 days, ours will have the chrome backing and other companies products may or may not.
We aren't trying to push people one way or the other on what headlights to buy. While some sell private label stuff to maximize profit, we sell it to minimize price.
If you want to discuss any particular point more, I'm willing to go into it in as much detail as you like.

So DEPO has better lighting, but Apexicone has better durability and the wiring is better?
Dra6on45 03-14-2008, 05:00 AM I agree on the durability part, on initial install of my projector36 which are depo based, the rear clip/locking mechanism on the cap of the headlight broke off. Still works great after more than a year of use and pushing an aftermarket HID system through it. Still gonna purchase a spare though. Just in case. At $135, who can resist this.
jsp98m3 03-14-2008, 10:00 AM At $135, who can resist this.
Judging from the response, not many people. I think we should maybe start thinking about taking pre-orders, no payments required, now. The list is getting pretty big and people, including me, should know how many total we are dealing with.
If people wouldn't mind, can they either call in or PM to username APXDDM and give us your full name, address, phone and email if you want to get in on the initial order of DEPO Gen-4 and DDM HID for $135? I want to make sure we get enough labor lined up. Right now, its looking like an entire weekend assembly line.

blackmajik 03-14-2008, 01:09 PM Just got my lighting stuff today (DEPO's, Angel Eyes, HID's, and fogs), and everything looks GREAT! Now I can't wait to get them on the car.
One question I do have, on the high beam side, there is a spot underneath where the bulb goes where you can put in an accessory light, but the wires on the back of the plug are cut. So I was wondering if there is a way that I can get a pair of the plugs with the wires leads on them?
Thanks again for awesome service and prices. And if anyone hasn't ordered from these guys yet, you are missing out. Any one you talk to on the phone or through email is extremely easy to deal with and knows what they are talking about.
jsp98m3 03-14-2008, 01:21 PM That is the city light. We cut those wires and use those to connect to the angel eyes. If you want to use the city lights also, use some spare wire to reconnect the cut wires to the angel eye inverter input wiring.

APXDDM 03-14-2008, 03:08 PM Yes sir you are correct, the 55W HID's emit 40% more light than the 35W ballasts. With 55w kit the kelvin temperatures are less noticeable. Both are head and shoulders above the competition. Thanks for you interest!

hmm, i probably wouldn't even notice the slight difference in light pattern, but i would notice the difference in build quality. do you know when you'll have the apexcone packages at these sweet prices?
Is their a reason why the Apexcone Ballasts I got do not have a sticker, markings etc, as to what they are? I paid for 55w Race and don't know for sure that I got them. :shifty
Is their a reason why the city light bulb holders do not stay in the connector or that the bulbs like to fall out into the high beam lens? :shifty
Is their a reason why the covers to not stay clipped on to the housings? :shifty
Is their a reason why the PnP pins either fall into the housing or pull all the way out rendering the pins completely useless. :shifty
Is their a reason why my old InPro's were 10x better quality then the the lights you sell? :shifty
Is their a reason why the PnP adapter was made by Mickey and Goofy? :shifty
Is their a reason why I had to make my own adapter, that happens to be 100x better then yours? :shifty
I'm just curious.

Did you give the vendor the courtesy of resolving your dissatisfaction? The guys and girls at DDM always seem pretty willing to make it right or resolve any issues you may have with their products. I would give Jim a call on Monday.

APXDDM 03-17-2008, 02:22 PM I would love to sit here and guarantee that it will not, but life is full of surprises and I have learned that in life there is no guarantee. What I can say is that 95% of our tail lights work perfectly and do not throw an OBC code error but all makes and models of cars are different. What I can guarantee is that if you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase that we will refund you your money. Thanks for your interest!

neil1138 03-17-2008, 03:59 PM Hey my b-day is on march 30! i just bought the E46 DEPO headlights from you guys and they are great. the only problem was that the wiring harness for the CCFL angel eyes was not included in the box, instead i recieved 2 wiring harness's for the headlights? its ok cause i just hardwired and retrofitted the wiring harness included to fit the angel eyes. It looks awesome. thanks (Maybe you could hook me up w/ some HID fogs since we were born on the same day!) lol

Marcus I know you prob get asked this all the time...But what are the specs on your headlights? 55w? 6000k? apexcone?..I just ordered the 55w 6000k kit and Im trying to guage what it will look like, going for more of a bright white with a hint of sky blue.
dorejades 03-18-2008, 04:21 AM Hey I'm very interested in buying you're 135.00 package. To be honest I don't know much about the headlights specs, I just want glass head lights with angel eyes that wont be hard to install. I really need to replace my stupid ebay head lights. what would you guys recommend?
Eddie916 03-18-2008, 04:43 AM ^ I recommend you do this. This price is unbelievable! HID kits sell for $135 alone.
Hey DDM, I have a few questions.
The thing I like best about the Euro glass projector headlights are the DEFINED lines across the front lens, like in ZKWs. It's clear that the ZKWs have much more bolder and defined lines than the Depos.
Is there any chance the Depos will have these soon, or if the ZKW front lens can be swapped right onto the Depo backing (found a set for $50 on both sides)?
And that, is honestly the only thing stopping me from buying.
Thanks!
SKooT1027 03-18-2008, 10:13 AM I just got all my stuff yesterday. I had to run from one job to the next, so I didnt even get to cut open the box. I cant wait to check it all out today when I get home from work though! Gotta say pretty good shipping time considering it was from CA to CT.

Personally, I can take out stock headlights and pop in ellipsoids with HIDs all in about 30 minutes, but I've done it way too many times at this point.. lol
You'll need a phillips head screw driver, flat head screw driver, and an 8mm socket on either a 1/4" drive or 3/8" drive ratchet, 1/4" drive is fine, but I personally don't have a long enough extension, so I had to use 3/8" on one screw. I think there's a DIY in the lighting section :) It's really easy to do.
Edit: Here's that DIY (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=820170)

Right,
It depends on how experienced you are at dealing with headlights. Like he said, it only takes 30 minutes if you know how and what to do. It shouldn't be hard even if this is your first time, follow the DIY and take your time and it will be simple. If you really get stuck and cant figure out whats going on, call us.Thats what were here for

You could always do the TSX retro fit. it will cost more in the end and you will have to do it yourself but will give you the best projection on the market of any car or any projector.

SKooT1027 03-19-2008, 06:43 PM So I was just looking through my package and had a quick question. I got the package deal, plus shift knob, ebrake handle, fog lights and bulbs for the fogs. When I looked in the box, there are two small H1 bulbs. Are those for the fogs or the high beams? And did the other of the two come with the bulbs installed? It doesnt look like there is a bulb in the highbeam spot, and if it is its really tiny. should there be something over it?
APXDDM 03-19-2008, 06:56 PM So I was just looking through my package and had a quick question.
If there isnt bulbs in the high beams then youre probable missing 2 bulbs, did you get the super blue h1 bulbs? you should have HID Lows, h1 highs, and another set for your fogs, let me know if the two from your high beams are missing and i will send you two more

6k sounds like what you are looking for. I would describe exactly as what you had mentioned. Bright white with a hint of blue.

It looks like the HIDs are in, as I can see bulbs in the outside part of the headlights, but the inside ones look empty. There were two tiny h1 boxes, with blue bulbs inside about the size of a christmas tree light. I assume those are the color match for the fogs? If so, im pretty sure im missing the high beam bulbs. FSUhorizon 03-20-2008, 10:33 AM Just a quick question about my order. Last wednesday night (3/12) I ordered the 199.00 package with 6k, 55w low beams and an additional 6k 55w D2s kit for my brother's S2000 that was not to be installed. I called the next morning and asked that black kidney grills (for a 97 M3 coupe) be included in my order. The order before the grills was $39x.00 or thereabouts. After the grills it should have bee in the $43x.00 range. There's a charge on my CC to Apexcone for $404.00 I'm guessing that either I was given the grills at a great price (probably not) or they weren't included (this is my guess). Can you look into this?
Also, a ballpark time on when to expect the order would be great. My brother's S2000 is out of commission until he gets the lights working again.

jsp98m3 03-22-2008, 03:57 AM Friends,
Check out the Benjamin Box (http://www.ddmtuning.com/benjaminbox.html). Easter Eggs (http://www.ddmtuning.com/ddm55wslkitt.html) for the weekend.
Figured I would give an update after a week had gone by. After many E-mails, PM's and phone calls they said they would take care of the problems. This has NOT happened and I doubt they will address any of the issues.
I am very disappointed with this company and would never do business with them or buy any of there products.
Caution to those on the bandwagon: I have owned my own business before and I can see what these guys are doing.
Basically, they drive all costs down, high volume low markup. The competitors can't keep of with the lower prices and will soon head into another business venture/model were they can make money. Then DDM will slowly start to mark up all their products, and with most of the competitors gone, we will be left at the mercy of DDM to dictate the market pricing. It's Kind of like a monopoly but not exactly.
I ask you guys to just be wary of this and proceed with caution.

Dude relax. I understand you spent your money and deserve to be serviced, but if you have owned a business you should also know that when you have such low prices you will get a lot of business which can make your otherwise good service overwhelmed with orders. If you are unhappy with these products pm Jim or just request a refund, and use one of the other excellent vendors here. Sorry for your issues but don't bad mouth any vendor here, I have always opposed that no matter which one it is, I think we as BF members are fortunate to have such vendors here, not all auto (hobbies) have that luxury.
jsp98m3 03-22-2008, 01:10 PM Voyd,
It is my understanding that we contacted you and offered you
1. A refund
2. Replacements
3. Replacement with DEPO that is actually CHEAPER than Apexcone lights
4. Credit for your purchase toward the same package using ZKW
I admit, I don't follow every problem that we get. But I dictated those terms for you personally since you seemed to have suffered a complete failure.
Since that time, no one has told me you've let us know what you want to do. We want to take care of you. Let me know which option you would like and we will send you a return label on Monday as all four options are going to require the return of the original purchase. Often, we work with customers to just fix a little problem they may have. But since absolutely nothing seems to have gone well for you, I told Marcus to tell you we wanted the lights back so I can look into this issue personally.
Until we hear back from you with an Apexcone invoice number, Yahoo Stores order number or your actual name, I can't even locate your original order from here, today. We do not ask for, notate or have the ability to look up and cross reference bf.c screen names.
I'm ready to help you. But I need information to go on.

Awesome deals DDM! I have 2 questions. Is the lifetime warranty included with the 55w kit? I currently have a 35w 6000k kit in my car now. Will the 6000k on the 55w kit be the same color as my 35w kit or should I go higher in color?
jsp98m3 03-22-2008, 01:34 PM Lifetime warranty is not included. I can add that as an option I suppose.
55W kits burn a couple of ranges hotter. So, I suggest an 8K or even a 10K kit. Almost everything in 55W burns white.
jsp98m3 03-22-2008, 01:47 PM For all of those of you that have already purchased the Easter Egg deal, you can contact us and add the warranty if you wish. I've added it to the website now.

Good thing i decided to check this post again. :rofl
Looks like more of my money is going your way Jim. :)
Just placed another order for 55w h1 hid. :D
You'll get another order for another set of depo/hid later this week also.
Is there anyway you guys can add the m3 bumper in the benj box to my order for me? Will i save on shipping cause the 55w hid can go in the same box with the bumper? :devillook
My name is Huy N and it's being shipped to WA 98003.

My name is Huy N and it's being shipped to WA 98003.HID can go into the box with the bumper. I'll modify your orders. Feel free to call in and get it all perfect on Monday too. This will make pricing very affordable when you factor in shipping consolidation and you will get money back.
FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT PAYING ATTENTION OUT THERE:
The integrated lip bumper is in the Benjamin Box for $100. The benjamin box also has a flat rate of $15/100 on shipping as noted on the heading text for that section.
An M3 bumper shipped to anywhere in the USA for $15.00? There have been several orders already. But people should be jumping on this.
Personally, I blame it on public schools :)
taimaishuu916 03-22-2008, 02:57 PM Is there any real difference between the integrated and detachable lip? I placed an order for the detachable lip but i dont know if i made it on the list to get it.
jsp98m3 03-22-2008, 03:08 PM I don't want to seem to influence it either way. So maybe others will jump in with personal opinions. Personally, I see it both ways.
As far as lists, there will be shipment after shipment coming in. So, if you are not on this list, you will certainly be on the next one.
taimaishuu916 03-22-2008, 03:11 PM I placed an order for the bumper on the 19th. I am from sacramento,ca and i was going to be in San Diego for spring break. I will be there on the 28 and i just wanted to know if i made it on the list or not. I wanted to pick this up along with other parts.

FSUhorizon 03-22-2008, 03:20 PM The slim kit on special looks to be different from either the DDM or the Apexcone kits on the site. Is that right? I'm going only from the pictures and neither product description talks about slim ballasts.
Also, can the slim kit 55w kit be used with D2s bulbs?

You probably didn't make the cutoff on the 19th. If not, then you will be on the delivery list for April 13th :(
I'm doing all I can. I'm shipping all of them the factory can or will produce every two weeks. We are getting every single bumper this factory has made for the last 6 weeks and we've bought all the inventory that other vendors have been selling.
If I could get my hands on more bumpers, I would do it. I'm hoping we are over this backorder situation in the next 30 days for good. But, instead of selling them for as much as we can get, we will continue to sell them for as much as we need to make. I know people hate backorders. But that's what great pricing does. It generates big demand. The usual cure for this is that vendors realize they can charge more, maybe significantly more and increase profits and have just enough inventory. Personally, I understand that approach, its just not one we intend to pursue. Product will be priced only as high as they need to be for us to make a fair return. We also have the advantage of some pretty sweet factory direct pricing others can't take advantage of.
So, please hang in there. I'd love to say I can have a bumper for you, but I just have the integrated lip units at this time. I'm not sure how long they will last either. Maybe a week or so.

That picture is of the same kit we are shipping. It may be slightly different in labeling. Currently our 55W ballasts have the electrical label on the ignitor.
Apexcone ballasts are entirely different in appearance.
All of our bulbs are capable of operating at 60W. Its too expensive and consumes too much space to stock both 35W and 55W bulbs. So, we just buy them 10,000-20,000 at a time and have them all be 60W and they give us a fair price at that volume.

I had to disassemble the units and make my own cables because of all the issues. I don't have an extra set of lights so I had to make these work. The longer this goes on, the harder it is to believe. Now you don't have stock headlights so you can't send back the ones you are having problems with? It is not remotely reasonable to ask a vendor to send you a second set of lights without sending the first back. And if you really want help, I suggest posting your full name so that they can locate your order. At this point, I just suspect that you are trolling.

I said IF he wants to help. He does NOT have too. I am not demanding anything. Hows this, I want absolutely nothing in terms of refunds etc. That was OFFERED to me by Zach from DDM. I told Zack that I just wanted my questions answered and HE said;
"I can't answer your questions but I can refund, exchange, credit your account". Still quoting; "We can send you replacements and when you get them you can ship back the originals."
I just wanted my original questions answered in a public forum since non of my prior private attempts to get answers were ignored.
As I had stated before this is just my experience. Most likely I am 1 out of 100 that has had a problem.
BTW, I never did have the the stockers. I had InPro's via the PO, which I sold right after I got the ApexVOYds. I don't understand were all this hostility is coming from, I have just asked questions and stated facts as I know them. I am sorry if I interrupted the rearranging of your sock draw.

I don't understand why you absolutely have to have your questions answered? Usually when I buy something that's not up to par in quality, I'd be more than happy to get my money back. I'll warn everyone else not to buy said product, but I wouldn't necessarily go run to Harbor Freight and ask exactly why their "Chicago Electric" tools are made in china and have absolutely nothing related to chicago. Based on the fact that you want neither a refund, replacement, or credit towards zkws, it really looks like you're trying to stir the pot. We all know that there's plenty of "customers" out there that would love to do so, and have done in the recent past (I'm not referring to you, I'm not saying you're doing this for this reason, I could probably big your biggest fan in another life :) ).
So. From an outsider looking in, you can see how it might appear that you really are trying to rearrange my sock drawer. Maybe create a thread somewhere else and also put up some pictures of said grievances and quality issues. I for one, would love to see a picture of Mickey Mouse on the pnp adapter :D:D

SKooT1027 03-23-2008, 12:38 PM DDM Guys,
I tried calling today, and I knew (hoped) you werent working since its Easter. I was setting up my headlights for install, and realized one of the two lights (LEFT) has a problem with those 4 prongs that the brown/yellow/white/grey wires connect into. The good light has all 4 prongs normal length. This left light, the two middle ones are very very short. To the point where the wires do not hold on and I do not trust that the wires wont work themselves lose in a matter of minutes. I really wanted to get the lights installed today, and im guessing now I cannot. Please contact me about getting me a replacement asap though! PM Me and I will give you a phone number. Thank you
Scott
jsp98m3 03-23-2008, 12:50 PM DDM, will you guys ever do a better deal on ZKWs? Maybe somewhere under 400 for an entire HID setup?
Probably not. Each headlight costs 105 Euros. So, 165/.65 = $161.54 each
Multiply that by 2 for two headlights and we have $323.08 and then we have to ship them. First they have to be trucked to the port in Hamburg. Then put on a boat and sailed from Hamburg to Los Angeles by way of the Panama canal. Then we have to pay customs clearance and duty on them. Then they have to be trucked from Los Angeles to San Diego.
European shipping is NOT cheap. I mean its really not cheap and I have to pay all those bills in Euros too. And I have to pay to exchange the money. The only place I pay in US dollars is for freight from Los Angeles to San Diego.
Truthfully, all of the ZKWs on our site belong to understeer. If you buy a set from me, I have to buy them back from him. If the dollar doesn't recover, I think $400.00 per set is likely to be history.
I've only been able to lower the costs on parts where I have significant advantages in buying power, friendships or can avoid paying the "American Price". There are also many products where people have just been getting ripped off so people besides you can live a nice lifestyle. Politely, there has been excess profit in this market.
ZKWs won't drop much because the dollar is weak. Also, we have never been out of the ZKW market and we have always been the price leader in this market from day 1. Understeer and Apexcone set the price point on these lights long ago and every other vendor has calculated their pricing based on how much HIGHER they thought they could sell them above Understeer. There has never been fat in our pricing on ZKW. The price used to be $330 per pair when the Euro was $0.85. Its $400.00 now that the Euro is something like $1.55 USD.
When this inventory is gone, I expect the price will be higher, if Understeer even continues to stock them.

One of the drawbacks, cheap-outs in all the Taiwan and Chinese lights is that they do not lock the pins in place mechanically, they hot glue them in from the back. To exasperate the situation, they do not make the euro screw in type connector for the PnP, Since there is no mechanical support on the PnP to hold the pins in place and resist pulling, bending etc, they then use a slightly undersized female pin to push on to the male pins on the headlight.
This is not the greatest way to do this. But, typically, it works. Your problem is not that the pins are short, they have been pushed into the headlight because the hot glue holding the pins into that barrel connector isn't holding those pins extremely well. To solve this, open one of the rear access doors on the back of the headlight and reach in with your fingers and push the pins back outward. You'll feel what I mean immediately. Holding the pins from behind while installing/pushing the PnP pins into place will prevent this from recurring. Now that they've been pushed back once, they'll be more prone to do it the second time.
The good news is that once the PnP is installed, it keeps those pins from moving and you can expect a long life of normal operation.
We do not like this situation anymore than you do and want to fix it and we're working on it. The problem is that DEPO really, really does make just one headlight for everyone, no matter what some would like to say.
They've made this headlight entirely wrong on several points since the early 1990's and didn't fix these issues before. In 2008, I don't see them putting any effort into it unless the mold breaks. But, I've got an angle on it and I'm going to see if I can make this better for people. If I can, you'll see the solution in May/June.
Anyway, try that. If its totally boofed up and you can't make that work, we'll exchange the light for you.

Jim,
Thanks. I did notice that the pins could be pushed back forward, so i tried that and once again when I went to put the clips on it went back in. I was thinking of pulling them forward, and putting a dab of crazy glue down low.. would that sound like a decent idea? Just to hold it in place at the bottom of the bronze pin where it meets the plastic.
Also.. quick questions
Those wires .. is this corect:
brown-top
white-mid left
grey-mid right
yellow-bottom
Where does the grey wire go? its just there and goes nowhere
Are the high beam bulbs already installed? i ordered fogs too w matching hids .. those fogs had clear bulbs, and there were h1 blue bulbs in my box. those bulbs are for the fogs, correct?

Its Easter. Half of my crew is at a company snowboarding event in Big Bear, led by Leif. The other half went home to be with their families.
Zach is unreachable in New York. Marcus is in Torrance and says he knows of your complaints but doesn't know how it was left with Zach, if Zach made any commitments to you. Leif and the rest of the company are not answering their phones. I don't even know if they can get cell service where they are.
I don't have Paul's cell number saved in my phone.
Why is what we sell built the way it is? Because it is. For 95% of people it works. For 4% more, its repairable or replaceable. There's always 1%. That's why we offer refunds, exchanges and pay for return shipping of products people don't like.
On Monday, I'll look over your questions again. Without pictures or specifics from my people, I can't speculate about your issues at this time.
Personally, I think you should post pictures. I want to improve the product and the only way to do that is to see how.
The only thing I remember you stating that seemed peculiar is that the PnP was bad. All of our harnesses are bought from DEPO. Even the ones we ship with the Apexcone brand. So, its surprising that over 300 customers per month get these PnPs and you have total failure on both of them. I'm stumped.
Anyway, have a safe and happy Easter. If we can talk about this on Monday (I have to get your real name to look up your order, or you can call in) I'll be happy to tell you "Why" about anything you want to know.
I'll even go check and see if Voyd is some variation of your real name and try to give you a call after I have some coffee.
Jim

If the lights are Apexcone or ZKW the wiring pattern is as follows when looking at the back of the light:
Brown = 12 o'clock <== Ground wire
Gray = 3 o'clock <== Angel Eye/City Light hot wire
Yellow = 6 o'clock <== Low Beam hot wire
White = 9 o'clock <== High Beam hot wire
On DEPO (assuming no assembly errors) the pattern is as follows:
Brown = 3 o'clock
Gray = 6 o'clock
Yellow = 9 o'clock
White = 12 o'clock
Hold the pins from behind as you push the PnP on. Test by putting the lights on top of the motor or something and plugging it in before installing to make sure the pattern is correct.
Note: Sometimes the DEPOs are rotated another 90 degrees clockwise. Sometimes they are boogered up entirely.
We will be working on something to alleviate this next week.
bmwsmurf 03-23-2008, 01:24 PM Jim,
I'd like to order a birthday bash set. In addition, what would it cost for me to buy an additional 35W or 55W HID kit to put into a set of Depos I bought from you last year?
Thanks.
P.S. I still haven't installed the Depos yet, but I checked them last w/e to make sure I got the non sealed type before ordering the extra HID kit, and one of the tabs broke while opening even though I was very careful.. is there any warranty for that kind of thing?
artifact 03-23-2008, 01:30 PM Jim, I need to call in tomorrow and check on a $199 Depo package that I ordered on the 11th. I got the tracking number from Marcus on the 18th and it said it was supposed to be delivered on the 21st, but the tracking information hasn't been updated since the 17th where it says "package data transmitted to Fedex" and I don't have the package yet. What would be the best time to call tomorrow and is there anyone in particular I should speak to? Thanks, just trying to figure out what's going on.

ok thanks! I have the depo package you just did like 2 weeks ago. What do I do with that grey wire that is just sorta there?
jsp98m3 03-23-2008, 01:43 PM We can see if we can find another lens around. But DEPO doesn't warranty the lights for breakage.
One fix for it if you have a soldering iron is to melt the plastic back together, no glue I've found will hold. This is a reason why we made the Apexcone with a softer plastic, so they wouldn't snap so easily.
For the missing package, that's just weird. We don't print labels before shipping for a lot of reasons. So, I think we either have some mistake or the lights are lost. In either case, we'll ship new ones out.
Jim
jsp98m3 03-23-2008, 01:45 PM The gray wire is attached, using the red add-a-tap connector, to the hot wire in your parking lights so that the angel eyes/city lights come on when you turn on the parking lights. You an extend this wire to any hot wire/switch etc you desire too.
For the halogen bulb order questions, call in and we'll sort it out, I will need to have one of the guys look at your order and do the stare and compare test to what you received.
With so many new people entering orders, we might have a mixup on what you were supposed to get. If anything is missing, we'll send it out at our expense.
M///BMW 03-23-2008, 01:51 PM 4 real....DDM is my new favorite supporting vender on here.........until im about to purchase my new flywheel...then uuc is gonna go back to being #1 lol!
jsp98m3 03-23-2008, 02:02 PM Raoke,
I can't say how long the Birthday Pricing special will last. We try to mix it up every couple of weeks to give people a new look at our products to entice them to take the plunge. One package tickles one person's fancy and the next person wants something else.
There is going to be a new feature on our website on Monday or Tuesday to help customers make an informed buying decision because there is so much obfuscation out there. We're going to clear the muddle a bit. Watch the website over the next several days. This is a feature we can't put on the forums.

Thanks, Jim. I'll call tomorrow to figure it out :)
