I parked my car sunday night, was driving great. I tried to start it this morning, and it won't fire. check the spark plugs, they are sopping wet. so I check for a spark, nothing. I start to pull the distributor, and the lead from the coil falls out in my hand. I take a look, and it is burned the eff up! the metal connector had melted! I don't get it. there are burn marks all inside both connectors, along with some disintegrated plastic.

what would cause this, and what is the resistance number to tell if the coil is bad?

thanks,

trevor

ok, so it was actually the spark plug wire that had melted. the brass had broken off, left a piece of it stuck in the coil lead. i pulled it out, and i'm trying to figure out if it was the coil that was bad, or if it was the spark plug wire.....

if it had only been the spark plug wire, wouldn't it have started on 3 cylinders? which makes me think it was the coil.

I mean the wire leading from the coil to the distributor..

got it fixed! turns out it was just the wire. the melting and burning was just from the bad connection, i guess. high voltage!

Also, i will mention how hard it is to find spark plug wires of this type! i went from place to place, nobody had anything except an entire set for 70-100 bucks. but i went to this little german car shop and he had one laying around, sold it to me for $7.

nice. very nice. glad you got it running again!!

whenever i need something like that, i just go into a euro mechanic and get them to cut a brand new one from a big spool of the stuff, pretty cool.
