this time around, I did it on another pair of headlights, the ones ddm is selling. Already broke 3 tabs  It's nearly impossible to take them apart without breaking them, boy do I miss my zkw :stickoutt

here is a quick pic, now I did it differently

http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/8112/img0189mh7.jpg

However I'm removing the inner lens because the beam pattern is not good.......
sucks because they look really good like this as far as looks go

What are these tabs everyone talks about breaking so much? The tabs that hold the high/low beam covers on, or something else? Depos must be really crappy if they break all the time, I've had my DJ Autos apart more than once and have yet to break any part of them, and they're just as cheap or cheaper. :dunno

The best results on DEPO are had by heating the plastic and lifting the tabs the barest amount with a putty knife. To do this, push the light open at the tab with your thumb while lifting the tab. When the tab has cleared the lens cover will move and hold the tab up. Move to the other tab, then the other end.

We do hundreds of them a month and this is the method we use. We still occasionally have a tab break.

I think DEPO has a large stock of headlight carcasses on hand and they are aging in the ozone. They assemble them just a little too fast when you order for me to believe that they are running the injections on order. And I've seen the product assembly warehouse, its not like they have thousands of them pre-made.

let me post some pictures, I just stuck them on the stock projector's housing.

and yes you can adjust them from outside, my previous set was also adjustable from outside, I thought you knew.

It took me like 40 minutes to do it, some cutting and some epoxy, I'm doing the other on tonight or tomorrow

He's right... when I did mine a while back ago, I heated up the tabs with a hair dryer and it made ALL the difference. Go get a hair dryer and 2 flat screw drivers and you'll be set.

lol, what can I say? I guess there is some truth when they say you get what you pay for, but for the price I got them I can't really complaint though

I got the 3000k hid kit, thinlines angel eyes, stealth front signal bulbs, lamin x for the headlights, extra H1 bulbs and a spare pass side headlight cover for $70 at DDM tunning

but you're right, they don't look like the 3000k hid kits we've all seen

They look 3000K/yellow on the ground where you need it :)

Its difficult to get a white hot arc of electricity to look anything except, well, white. Yellow visibility will be enhanced with fogs that have blocking bulb shades rather than with open bulbs.

All HIDs have a very high white/blue component naturally. When you look straight at them, you're going to see a lot of white/blue light.

There are some other options that go into sales pitch'ness, so, I'll have to skip that.

FINISHED PROJECT :buttrock

sorry no write up, hopefully this pic can explain what I did, basically I took out the old projector and cut around the housing to make the tsx projector fit, and the stock housing is what's holding the tsx projector, I had to use some exopy, but I recomment JB weld instead.

here is the pic, looks a little messy, but the projector is really tight and secure in there, also the shourd covers it.

volcomnator999
04-07-2008, 01:29 AM
the washer mod is when you get some washers and you put them inbetween the halves of the projectors....usually 3 washers should do the trick...it makes your cutoff line more colorful

heresmymind
04-07-2008, 08:12 PM
okace 2 #8 washers on the "nipples" on the bottom half of the projector thats part of the cutoff shield. causes massive blue along cutoff. but destroys the sharp cutoff tsx's are wanted for. also decreases output/forgoreground output

damn... this is awesome work man...

i might have to get with you later once i find some of those shrouds. i also ordered some ddm lights so ill put my old retro in them and sell the old depos afterward.

did you have to trim the tsx projector housing for it to fit in the stock location of the depos?

The-Great-328ic
04-09-2008, 09:30 AM
not the tsx housing, but the stock depo's projector housing.

raoke
04-09-2008, 01:09 PM
How's the shroud secured to the projector?

And how come the stock depo shroud looks all cut up.. It looks like you can still see it with the shroud over it in the first pic with the shroud on.

The-Great-328ic
04-09-2008, 06:42 PM
the shroud is secured to the stock housing, interesting enough the shroud is exactly the same as the stock housing...

the stock shroud is cut up because it's designed for the depo projector because it's smaller, however I ended up removing them, because I didn't see any reason for me to keep it there, since the e60 shroud covers it anyway..

raoke
04-10-2008, 08:56 AM
Ic... That cut up piece is the depo shroud and you used it just to cover stuff up but then opted to get rid of it for the e60 piece.

Do you have pictures of how you secured the tsx to the frame?
The original diy threads (including the one i used) incorporated little metal brackets with bolts and screws so Im interesting in your more simple and functional approach.

And I was wondering HOW is the shroud secured? Is it glued permanently or something else?

The TSX mod was one of the best I have ever done. Such a difference!!!!!! I hate how they look even better out of the car. Once you put them behind glass, they lose a wee bit of sharpness and a lot of that blue cutoff

well, the first pic in post #39 is how it's secured. when you receive your lights and open them, it will give you a better idea and see how the stock projector is secured, however since the tsx projector is bigger, I had to cut some of the plastic that was holding the projector and get it out of the way so the tsx projector would fit. I think making the brakets would've been easier, but with the way I did it, you can adjust the projectors as if you were using the stock projectors, I wouldn't say it's simple, I actually thought about it twice after doing one side, it was a little messy, but it worked out good.
The shroud is glued to the stock housing (first pic post #39) and just imagine the shroud over it. I used crazy glue to keep it in place

Is there an up or down on the TSX projector (read: possible to accidentally mount it upside down in the depo housing)?

M52 POWER!
04-11-2008, 07:26 AM
So the washer mod is when you just add a few washers between the 2 halves of the tsx housing. Basically elongating it, moving the bulb further back from the front lense?

And by doing this it makes the cutoff a big blue area?

you can see inside the projector and you'll see the shield (what makes the cut off line), so you can see which way is up and which is down
