Well as some of you know, and some dont, I will be leaving the island soon for my next duty station in Iraq. I will be leaving at the end of april to go home for 30 days of leave, and then onto to Norfolk, and then Ft Bliss, TX for training before heading to Kuwait and then Iraq.

I will be shipping my vehicle home, Monday March 31st, so I can have it at home while I am on leave, and will be going to some HPDE's on the mainland. I just signed up for the Milwaukee PCA event at Road America, Lake Elkhart, WI on May 3rd, 4th, and also a Central States Region Ferrari Club of America event at Gingerman in South Holland, MI on May 17th and 18th. I can't wait to test my skills on a REAL road course. :buttrock:buttrock:buttrock

In regards to my last cruise, due to some commitments, the only day I could do anything would be March 29th on Saturday, as the 30th will be my last auto-x event here in beautiful Hawaii. :)

Don't worry, I still have 2 months almost left out here, but my car only has 3 weeks.. :(

not a problem.. Road American and Gingerman are going to be awesome, I can't wait. My first DE experience was at Road America with a friend as a spectator. I was able to ride with some instructors in their cars (Audi TT, Porsche Turbo, E36 M3 (race prepped), E46 M3, as well as some others). That is what actually got me hooked on the driving events and actually buying my M3. I can't get enough of it. I actually had my first and only "race" crash there, as I was riding with an instructor in his Audi TT, and we were going through the "kink" and he got squirrely and overcorrected himself, and we hit the back wall in excess of 80mph. No one was injured, 4 point harness, helmets, and the airbags deployed, so .... that was an experience, I enjoyed it since it wasnt my car, but I felt really bad for the owner. He had done 50+ events and never had a problem before

Will be really special to have my first HPDE experience at the track that originally got me hooked on this "sport". I have some stuff to buy to help prepare though, and the registration for these things in NOT cheap.. LOL

new SA rated helmet
Hawk HT-14, HT-10 race pads especially for road america, where the front straight in the E36 M's are capable of 140mph+ into corner one
and new aluminum radiator, I'm already pushing it with my stock one

can't wait though, it will be all worth it :)

Hey Cal,
Mahalo for fighting for the Red-White-Blue we appreciate it very much!!
Take care of yourself and pray for God's protection. I'll add your name to our prayer list at church....it's a long one!
I have few co-workers that will be heading to the box as well in October sometime.
Man I wish I could go and help a few Islamics meet the Creator they don't want to know about!

I probably won't see you before you leave, so may God Bless You and Keep You!

Oh, and have a good time at the tracks!

140 is overrated...pic taken on one of our cruises flex set up last year...i think it went a little faster, but i had to put the camera down at that time...:D

oh- if you do i, make sure your sunshade is secured in the cabin, so it doesnt come flying out the window like how mine did...:D

Speedgear track days did not require cages for long course and they even let the novices run the long course.

Cal 140 shouldn't be a problem with your car.
I did 125 at my first Aloha 500 on 2/02/02 at HRP in my M roady.
Then on one of flex's cruises...same place that Jay went to, I was able to hit 130 in my 318is however, that was a much longer straight away. I only wish I had a camera at the time.

Whatever speed you hit, I'm sure you'll have fun doing it, just be sure to check out your car first for any safety issues.

Cal,
Sorry to hear you'll be leaving us...Godspeed in the box, keep cool...I heard things aren't as bad now with the trailer hooches and bathrooms. Don't trust any of the Haji's though. They will knife you in the back or blow you up as you leave their house...I know first hand.

I am hoping to make the 30th autoX, I need to redeem myself before you leave for good!

Have a great time on the tracks...I miss that so much! It is a blast when you are behind the wheel of your own car. Some advice - do a full tune up of the car, make sure the fluids are changed, all bolts are torqued, brakes are flushed and pads are good. If something fails at 100+ mph, it is definitely not the same as on autocross. As you know, the walls win, cars lose...
Beastie is right, check them tires well! You can always fall back on your street tires if needed, but be sure to make the mental switch if you go back out on the track.

Hope to see ya soon!

99MPower
03-14-2008, 05:22 AM
