Can't wait to see what it is here in HI. And I thought the regional adjustment of $10k on the new M5/6 was rediculous.

I would figure it should get marked up at least $10k, same as most of the other M cars here.

A M3 and a 1-series were supposed to make it here for the car show, but I was told both of those cars got damaged in the New Jersey ship-tipping incident.

you can bet that the local dealer will mark it up plenty. It's not as though you can drive to a nearby town and find another dealer to generate a little competition. I think that I would also avoid a first year model - let someone else find the bugs and let BMW find the fixes, then buy.

Actually that $30K mark-up isn't that bad, the word on the new ZR-1 Corvette is that the dealers will be marking them up by $100K making the car's sale price at $200K but as Ben said someone will be ponying up the cash to buy the car.

I take it you have not spent all that much time in the dealerships down here. They operate as if they were in a vacuum. Hell, when you really think about it they are in a vacuum. In many cases, like Gary mentioned with BMW/H, they know that they are the only game in town and can pretty much play by whatever rules they choose.

I was just talking about Chevy as a whole. Not just down here. I dont doubt the dealerships here will do that, but as a whole, I doubt the markup will be that drastic.

Im coming from NC though, Z06's there werent expensive at all in comparison. $50k-$60k tops.

Thats why I say "As a whole." Meaning, the average across the world for the new ZR-1 wont be $200k. Maybe it would be that much here in HI, but not everywhere.

Is that like cow tipping?

Not quite.

There was a thread about it in the General BMW Discussion forum back in January (can't post the link yet). Basically, the ship (the Courage) tipped over enough to cause about 370 new BMWs to slide around and smack into each other. Majority of that shipment were 1-series cars and m3s, allocated for dealer demo/carshow usage.

msrp on the 2006 C6 Z06s were 65k for a base one...in 2007, that price jumped up by 5k, making a base Z06 70k...

Its worse here on Maui than it is for you guys on Oahu. Since we only have one Ford dealership, every car on the lot has a $5000 dealer markup. Have you ever seen a $30K Ford Focus, come to Maui. Then again they had a brand new Ford GT listed at almost $400K, the MSRP was $150K.

Ditto.... my friend did it with his Lancer Evolution IX MR.
Shipping + GET was still a lot cheaper than the dealer $6k requested markup... not to mention, he had choices of what color and options he wanted.
Shipped the car here in an enclosed container w/ insurance too.
And all this hassle was just over a $6K markup price...

If he could do it... I don't see why others can't when dealers are asking $10K... $20K... $30K markup prices.

It is always a good bargaining tool. When I bought the S I told the dealer to take off the market adjusted price before we would even start to negotiate. He said that part of doing business, and living, here in Hawaii was dealing with this; to which I told him to get stuffed. Told him that I would just get mine from the mainland (we military folk don't get hit with the additional taxes down here) instead and walked out. He followed me saying that we could start negotiating at MSRP...

walking away works amazingly well. I remember many years ago, just before BMW released the i engine for the E30, I was looking at 944s and Supras. I saw what I thought was a good deal on a Supra in suburban Maryland, so I drove up and checked it out, and by the time the salesman had added in paint protectant, undercoating and believe it or not, additional markup, it came the the same price as a 944. I stood up and started walking toward the door, and within a minute the price came down $4500. I still passed on the Supra, and a test drive in a vert with the new i engine convinced me to buy my first bimmer, a new '87 325is.
