View Full Version : Flicker HID, HELP PLEASE!

My setup:
-Retrofitted E46 projectors, using Hella Gen4 Ballasts with separate igniters
-Soldered the ballasts' wires to female 9006 plugs, which then hookup to the male 9006 on my car to power the low beams
-The soldering is properly sealed and the power/ground are not in contact so there shouldn't be a short over there

The problem:
-Driver's side low beam stopped working.
-Initially thought it was the ballast/igniter, so I replaced it and still wouldn't work
-Turns out the fuses for both the low beam and high beam on the driver side blew
-Replaced fuses, high beam works and now the low-beam fires up but the bulb is at like half intensity and keeps flickering, then eventually turns off.
-Swapped bulbs, and the problem still persists on the driver's side.

WTF is going on?

Check your harness, make sure its not cut or damaged...

Not using a harness. Never have, not even with my old kit which I ran for 2 years.

This type of problem is typically caused by a lack of startup current. Problems can occur at almost any time in a car. Considering that almost all of the major suppliers have revamped their current requirements on startup down to 6amps from the old days of 12amps or more, its not unlikely to be a problem with the light switch, corroded or pinched wiring or a sagging charging system.

One of the first things we always recommend to people is to make a habit of having your charging system checked. BMWs seem to be hard on batteries. Go by the local Pep Boys, they have a machine that can test your charging system very well and its a free service. You can even shop for air fresheners while you wait :)

I also recommend you contact your retailer who can offer more help.

the same thing happened to mine and i still don't know what was wrong with it. I contacted apexcone where i got them about my warranty adn sent my whole kit back for them to check to see what's wrong. they received it 3 weeks ago and i still haven't got a response after I emailed them once or twice. sucks havin regular halogens again, the hid's looked so sick. i'm half tempted to buy another set and if they ever send mine back to me just sellthem or something.

can you try this on a coupe and get back with us. Maybe the extra doors are causing the problem

:)

I had similar problems and it turned out to be bad d2s plug wires. Make sure you're using high quality wires in your kit.
