View Full Version : Where to buy Stoneguard? Max M3 03-10-2008, 11:30 AM I can't find 3M Stoneguard anywhere!? I need it for a foglight and headlight on my e36.... rdpower 03-10-2008, 11:45 AM Are you set on stoneguard or will lamin-x work for you? Max M3 03-10-2008, 12:27 PM Well, to be honest, I don't know anything about Lamin-X, but I already have stoneguard on the other headlight and foglight, so if it looks any different, then I wouldn't want to change... The Stoneguard is nice and thick and has saved my headlights from all sorts of debris, but even IT wasn't good enough to save the headlight from someone backing into it! :( blackm3 03-10-2008, 08:34 PM I think you're out of luck. Stoneguard went out of biz...go with lamin x. I'd like the S.Guard as well since they are thicker. Call Chris at Understeer.com to see what he has. I guess that's as good as I'm gonna get. Thanks for the info. rdpower 03-10-2008, 09:09 PM DDMtuning sells the 40mil version for around $20. jsp98m3 03-11-2008, 11:03 AM For those with a curious nature, StonGard was 80 mils thick and would take a fast ball down the middle. But the process was laborious because the product (80mil) came in sheets 4 feet wide and 3M did not sell this product with the glue preapplied. So StonGard had to apply the glue themselves, cure it, apply the paper, cut it to pattern and package it. 40mil product is generally ok for rocks you will find on the freeway up to half an inch or so. 3M sells the 40mil stuff with the glue preapplied so its easier to use. But, not all machines can even still auto cut this. I believe Lamin-X still has to hand cut even these although they said they were going to get a machine to do it when they moved offices or whatever they were doing. I don't know if that has happened. The thinner 20mil stuff is really only suitable to stop pea gravel and pitting from dust. |
