Ok, So I am looking to pick these up for my Dad's Z4, but I was looking under the hood trying to see the best fitment for them.

Has anyone installed these on their Z4? If so, where did they put the trumpets/compressor?

Just reminds me of a big lifted F150, not a Z4. But to each their own.

A lifted F150? Umm, did you forget that Ferrari and a lot of other European cars have airhorns in them?! But your right to each their own.

I'd concede it's a bad idea due to the lack of "Yes, I did that" posts.

As I said, good luck.

I have some other opinions I'd love to share .... :kiss

Actually, He was the one who asked me for the horns. Maybe you need to do a little research of European cars...in fact through the 70s Mercedes had a switch to toggle back and forth between city and airhorns.

And as far as your opinions, well I'd tell you where you could address them, but frankly I could care less what you think, I asked for a suggestion of mounting points, not your personal opinion or feedback as to what does or doesnt belong in a BMW. If I wanted a critics opinion I would've posted a poll. :D

Once again, good luck. I hope you both are pleased with the install and the resulting sound.

With that, I reckon we're done.

Have I gone to an aftermarket horn?

Yes.

How did the install in the ample engine bay go?

Well,

I'll keep that to myself as I would hate to suffer the wrath of not posting something up to your standards...

After all, my mounting point was chosen using my opinion on where to put the larger (loud, good sounding) horn...

And I would hate to bother you with my opinion...

The best place to locate plastic air horns is not in the engine bay. Rather, use the same location as the stock horns. My recall is that the stock horn(s) is located in the lower right corner of the car. This location is away from heat and hidden from view. The stock horns are disc-shaped about 5-6" in diameter, so finding enough room may take some creativity. My "guess" is that the stock horns are wired from a relay as most cars, which means you would not have to use the relay with the Hella horns - just plug and play. If it doesn't "play" loud, then consider the Hella relay.
Have fun.

Platelets - thanks for asking this question. I had no idea it could be done, and will want to get this done on mine. Rey - thanks for posting the install tips.

fwiw,

Stebel Nautilus compact is 20DB Louder than the Dukes of Hazard set up and takes up half the room.

Thanks for all the info, I will certainly take a look about installing it there. The one place I was thinking of mounting the horns I wasnt so sure about and that was on the firewall in front of the passengers side of the car. What my intentions are for this is to leave the stock horns in tact, and just spice off of them. Thats what I did with the Hella twin horns in my car. When I get them installed I will try to get some pictures up so those of you who are insterested can see.

I wasnt trying to bash on anyone in particular, I just HATE when you ask for assistance and people bash what you are trying to accomplish. Opinions on where to install and how installs went are completely different. I am here to help people, if they are asking for an opinion I'll give you mine, if they are asking the best I will help to my best ability, if I can't help then I wont post, I dont feel the need to try and rack up posts with responses which dont address the thread at hand.
