So I let my boss drive my e46 today and he loved it. He kept saying that "it was like an extension of me - it just wants to keep going."

Then he digressed - as a Saab owner - and said to me "Well, I prefer to drive a car built by a company that builds jets."

Both of us are pilots. I looked him dead in the eye and said "I drive a car that is built by the people that build the engines for our jets - Boeing 717s."

As a former Navy pilot, I guess I can say "Fly BMW"...

My boss which is a ONLY Mercedes owner, drove my 330i and was "wow... this thing fly!! But, how come if my Mercedes have bigger engines and don't feel like this!"

And after looking all over the car inside-out and the engine bay (he does know nothing about cars/engines), he got on the driver seat again and said "but... still has that BMW look!"
:lol

If he prefers to drive a car built by a company that buils jets, then why is he driving a Saab? Saab spun off the auto division into a completely seperate company in 1990. 50% of that was quickly bought by General Motors. The only thing the auto company and the jet company share is the name. His car is more closely related to a Chevy than a jet... :D

BMW has it's roots in Aviation, they just got out of airplanes before the jet age.

http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans/column/sedans2_bmwhistory.html
After the Treaty of Versailles was signed in the same year, prohibiting BMW from building aircraft engines, production switched to air brakes for railway cars. When BMW started once again to build aircraft engines in 1922, no fewer than 29 world records in aviation were set with them. The current BMW logo, introduced in 1920, was based on the circular design of an aircraft propeller.

The saab name is just that, a name. Since GM took control they've pretty much dragged the Saab name though the mud and threw it on everything from a Trailblazer to a Subaru.

Tell your boss that an elitist attitude about a marque requires a premium brand, not a bastard stepchild of GM.

Saab is quite a statement actually. That is before GM took over. Someone driving a Saab tells me he/she doesn't wanna be a part of the millions rolling in Toyota's and Honda's.

It's also a perfect choice for women. A woman driving a Saab will draw my attention immediately. And the funny thing, it's always featured in movies! Every product you see featured in movies is not coincidental.
