I was wondering if anyone has had experience dealing with any local guys that do chrome plating, my 318 has super clean set of bottle caps on it and I'm thinking it would look really good and be cheap to just get them chromed until I have money for really good wheels. Average prices? Places to stay away from???

either paint the wheels yourself...black for example.

Don't you dare. Go buy a mercedes if you want to chrome something.

you wouldn't chrome them anyway, you'd get the aluminum polished.
plating is really spendy these days anyway. you can probably get them polished for around $100/wheel.
I'd actually look at possibly just polishing the lip as that would be a more period correct look for an early E30.
I've seen a few E30s with polished bottle caps & it looked OK, but not great IMHO, you could proably do a lot better with just a bit more $.

I would just save up 800 or so for some DS1 or DS2's

It's a terrible idea; they corrode, they rot, they lose air.
You're setting yourself up for lots of problems. And they're bottle caps anyway.

don't bother with chrome, as others mentioned it tends to leak and peel off over time.
if you're looking for a quick and easy improvement, get some wheel paint from eastwood, clean the wheels well and paint em. i did this to a set of junkyard wheels and they looked good enough to use on my daily driver and lasted for years, until i finally upgraded.

Thanks for the advice everyone, after looking around at more pics of other people's e30s I think I will just wait until I can afford to upgrade to some different wheels with a lip, i really think that changes the whole look of these cars so I will just wait.
