View Full Version : Power unlock doesn't work, can't open passenger door!

I have a problem with the door locks in my '02 which I've had since new.

The power locks can LOCK the doors/trunk, but won't unlock them. Pushing unlock on the fob causes the lights to flash, but nothing unlocks. The button on the center console will lock anything that's unlocked, but another press does nothing.

Possibly a clue: yesterday, since the power locks weren't working, I unlocked the trunk and driver's door with the key. But since there's no keyhole on the passenger door, I unlocked that by reaching over and pulling the inside pull. The button popped up and the door opened.

But today, that doesn't work on the passenger door. It's locked, but pulling the inside handle does nothing at all. So I'm unable to open that door.

Any suggestions? I'd of course like to be able to open the passenger door, but I'd also like the power unlocking function to work. I assume the failures are related.

Door lock problems are common. Take the door panel off and have a look....

Anyone got any good ideas about how to get the door open so I can do that? I guess a locksmith could slim-jim it.

Failed(ing) actuator...

Would that explain why the driver's door and the trunk also don't work via the power locks?

They all stopped working at once? If that is the case... then that is a different story... all the actuators rarely all fail at once. Do the lock open with the key? I would check the fuses first...

Correct -- all failed at once, except that at first, the mechanical inside door pull still worked, but now it doesn't.

All locks open with the key just fine. But the passenger door has no keyhole. So that door is currently locked with no way to unlock it.

bad General Module? It's the master controller for the door locks.

Where do I find this module? Part number?

When you pull the door pull inside the car... does the handle stay out or does it spring back into the door as it should? If it stays out, that means the door cord inside the door has broken.

An electrical issue sounds to be the culprit I would think fuse first. When you try to unlock the doors do you hear the motors in the door attempt to do the unlocking?

The inside door pull feels totally normal (but the door doesn't unlock or open), and I don't hear any motors attempt anything frob the fob or the console button. I'm now leaning towards thinking it's the control module, the confusing thing is why the passenger door opened manually twice, but then no more ...

I'd really like to know where in the car this module lives ....

I had the same problem a couple times I had to get in the car start it and push the button like 20 times for my passenger to get in, it sucks driving a nice car and having a stupid problem that makes you look dumb on a date. haha
