View Full Version : 840 i or ci? what is it?
Luko840 03-06-2008, 04:49 PM Hi all
Been going through my service history and some of the paper work says 840i and some says 840ci, my registration document says 840ci but when I enter my chassis number into RealOEM it comes up as an 840i. So what is it? and whats the differance between i and ci?
Cheers, Luko.
cshiflett 03-06-2008, 08:29 PM I didn't realize the 840 was ever called the 840i. In the states, it's always been the 840Ci as far as I know. The 850 however started life as the 850i, and BMW decided to add the C to the designation partway into it's life. The added C didn't denote and specific change to the car, it was just a naming thing.
TerryY 03-06-2008, 10:21 PM The difference is that BMW needed a way to differentiate between the early and late models so it split the parts manual into i and Ci even though all of the 840s are labeled Ci :)

JimmyBones 03-06-2008, 11:39 PM Hey Arlington8 do you hang out around Fairfax much like near route 50 and Gallows road because I think I have seen your car before? Just trying to remember a nice car.
Arlington8 03-07-2008, 12:42 AM I'm rarely found outside the beltway save up and down the GW parkway/I-270 to get up to Rockville and back from where I work...I'm a NCC member and realize I need to get out more though. I hope to make some spring events.
Since I've had it from last Summer, I've seen one, just one, other eight on the Dulles Toll road one morning going the other way. I was in my five so I couldn't FTP him.
The guy I park my eight next to in my garage in Arlington has a Lamborghini Gallardo, a 911 turbo, and an M3. Nice choices. He rotates.
Every time I leave it though...that Lambo just fades away as I gaze back on my beautiful eight.

Actually, I was coming back from Curry's several months ago on route 50 and a 750 slowed down to say hello. Was that you? I had to exit right then on 28.
JimmyBones 03-07-2008, 08:12 AM If it was an older gold E32 750 then yeah it was me. Your right about not seeing many of the 8s because I have seen three total: yours, red 840, and a green 840.

Thanks for that, I feel I should remove the c from the cars bit opposit my name. But I wont, dont wana feel left out.
As for a UK 8 meeting, would be fantastic. I have only seen 2 other 8s since I have had mine. One was a dull green 840 that looked well neglected and the other was a black 850csi but I never got close enough to check out if it was real.
TerryY 03-07-2008, 09:30 PM They are ALL 840Ci except in the parts catalog. No 840 was ever marked 840i.

MWrench posted this a while ago and you should check his posting history to find your answer or ask him.
