As the title suggests, I want to use the existing wire loom for the speakers, but I am changing my AMP. Preliminary investigation shows the wiring system to be a little odd, but essentially 4x 4ohm speaker sets, F/L/R/F, but each corner is fed by 4 wires, with a small crossover in place at each corner directing the appropriate signals to the correct type of speaker - kick, mid, and tweeter.

Sama posted me a picture of his wire connector feeding into/out of the stock amp, but it is from an earlier model than mine, and of course completely different in wire color layout. So to potentially save me some time, has anyone done what I want before and kept records, or can someone direct me to an online manual/article which will give me the info I need. Bearing in mind my car is a 1997 840 M62 Sport Euro model etc etc

Of course I could find out (in time) which is which but would be great if I could by pass that part and power on with my install http://www.clube31.net/forum/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Cheers in advance
Tony

get your multimeter

establish which are the power lines and the remote_amp line (white I think), those should be easy.

set it to resistance reading, range that can show 20 ohm and below.

stick a prong in the first pin, and test it with every other pin. when it shows 4ohm, you know it's a speaker

note from the colours that you have common ground for door speakers etc.

if you record all your findings on a paper, you should be able to figure it out easily, without taking it all apart.

that's what I did, but I did it to use the existing amp

yours might be a little different- this is from a '92 at the amp-

Notice the speakers share a ground. You will have to work around that. Another thing- the OEM amp has a crossover network inside for each speaker location. If you put an amp in, you need to bi-am or tri-amp thru a electronic crossover or you'll blow the tweeters. Even if plugs above are not pinned just like yours, the wire colors might help.

yep Scc, that's the one I sent to him.

as it turns out, it's different to mine too. White was the only real one I was after, and I sorted it in the end.
