I drove my new acquisition from New York City to Salt Lake City last fall in three days. The seat felt like you were sitting in a glove, the 6CD upgraded sound system playing, what a driving pleasure it was. It is a good thing it has a Navigator for directions, because trying to exit Manhattan was the toughest part of the journey with all of its pot holes and detours. Once out of the City, it was a straight shot on Hwy 80 all the way. This car is a "cruiser" as it's so stable and just wants to go! After New Jersey the highway was uncrowded and speeds between 70 and 80 were the norm. Driving through Pennsylvania's Pocono mountains was a visual treat. Overnighted in Ohio and then continued through Illinois and Iowa. Iowa is pretty flat and then the wide open spaces of Nebraska followed by Wyoming beg for you to open it up. It is a good thing I didn't get stopped because the navigator records and visually displays your top speed (120)! A new Mustang GT challenged me in Wyoming and I'll bet he is still wondering what happened as we accelerated out of 70 and I watched him fade in my rear view camera. I was so satisfied as I finally pulled into my driveway. The "Driving Machine" operated flawlessly. It is not often I have had the opportunity to take a long trip. It was a real test of the vehicle and a chance to familiarize myself with my first BMW. It may be an old 96 but I'll take it over any new car on the road when it comes to cruising. My final average MPG for the 2200 mile trip was 18.9.

My first one came from northern Calif. Drove it home to Texas, stopped at the Grand Canyon, had a great trip. Those western roads are beggers for speed. Second one came from Virginia/DC area. Drove it home thru the Blue Ridge Mtns and across Tennessee/Arkansas into west Texas. Each of those first trips home have their own funny stories to go along. Different things wrong with each car put a twist on both trips! Since rebuilding both cars we have been across to Florida twice and the cars are 100%. We call them our "land jets". Always record time to your destination. It's always funny to watch my gps recalculate the initial eta as the trip progresses.

You went through Nebraska? What cities did you go through, if any? I live in the capital of Nebraska, Lincoln, not by choice.

The Animal,
Cities? If they were on US Hwy 80, I screamed by them! Saw a lot of corn stalks and farms. Not quite as scenic as the redrock country of Utah, which has more National Parks than any State in the Union.
