OK, im almost done with my cooling system. Though i need help with these two settings that the Bentley either skips or is too vague on.
1. Throttle body (OBD1) to intake manifold
2. Water pump nuts. The Bentley says 89in-lb for M6 nuts, 17ft-lb for M8. How can i tell the difference between the two?

take a 6mm socket and try to fit it over the bolt threads...if it looks the same size then its six, if it looks like 8mm next to a 8mm socket its that size.
I personally wouldnt worry about torque settings on either of these items, just tighten them evenly and do not over tighten. If they are 6mm id use a 1/4 inch drive ratchet. I am sure someone will say "allways follow torque specs" and i guess its a good idea. Nothing ive done has ever fallen off, and gaskets i replace never leak. Im not saying guess on your driveline, suspension or engine, or forget the loc-tite on the flywheel. Use your own judgement. just my opinion, if it counts for anything.
edit; if you really need the specs on the tb to intake, ill see if any of my books have them for you and write back at lunch time.

89in-lb should be fine here, because these bolts are M6 Grade 8.8, and BMW's general torque spec for this fastener is 89in-lb. Or, lightly snugged. :D

M6 has a 10mm head
M8 has a 13mm head

Awesome! Thank you FredK, you are a complete stud. :D

When i use my own judgment, i usually end up stripping threads or breaking bolts.

I see in my manuals, most M6 fasteners are 88.5in lbs, so 89 will work ;)
Youd be supprised how little you tighten somethings and they are overtight. sounds like you need a shorter ratchet!
