Just used my bavauto code reader on my 97 M3. threw a code 16, which is "ignition coil, cyl. #7" what is number 7???

Since the engine only has six cylinders, I'd take that result to mean that the code tool is confused. Have the car scanned by someone (dealer or well equipped indie) who has a full-up BMW diag system.
