AKABeast 03-05-2008, 09:13 AM Car is absolutely beautiful! You did a great job on the ext. and the interior is really unique. where did you get the seats and are they a "plug n play" retro fit?
dophineh 03-05-2008, 10:09 AM where are the alpina's?
CaptHerb 03-05-2008, 10:48 AM where are the alpina's?

The seats are from a 2001 740i Sport, the back rests are from a 1997 750iL. The seat frames are physically bolt in but the wiring harness doesn't match. I had to rewire the seats to make them functional.
04SSHD 03-05-2008, 11:08 AM where are the alpina's?
The Alpina's are at the wheel shop being repaired, and re coated.
project37 03-05-2008, 12:34 PM Great looking car. Love the interior & the polished paint.

m5james 03-14-2008, 01:18 AM I miss the leg supports...my M5 had them. Anyways, I have to ask though - how in the fcuk did you get the Sport Steering wheel to work? Does the airbag work too, because I KNOW it's not just a simple bolt and go since that airbag is a Gen II and we only have Gen I.

The sport wheel is FULLY Functional. Airbag, radio controls, and cruise controls. The secret is...it's not a dual stage airbag. The wheel was pulled from a 1999 540iT. 5 series have the same style airbags as the 7. pre 3/99 are single stage, after 3/99 was dual stage. So you just need to locate a 97-99 5 series sport and the airbag is bolt on. On 95-9/96 cars you will need to bypass the MLF module to get the radio controls working, this can be achieved by running an ibus wire to the slip ring and jumping it into pin 4.
m5james 03-14-2008, 12:06 PM Awesome find bro! How much smaller is the sport wheel vs. the stock one? I feel like my steering wheel should have a crank knob on it for turning. My radio controls dont work since i've gutted the factory stereo system, but I still need the controls to work since I have an adapter that converts the buttons on the wheel into a wireless signal that my deck uses.

It's just a little smaller than the 4 spoke

If you have a 9/96+ through pre 3/99 the radio buttons are plug and play.
Here are a few youtube vids on my install

I tested it in my 12/98 production 1999 model-

and jumping the ibus wire to get pre 9/96 MLF module bypassed-

m5james 03-14-2008, 12:22 PM :boobies what'd it run ya, and where'd ya find it anyways? There aren't any german specific junkyards out here like I had in Seattle :(

We have like 5-10 BMW only junk yards in my area of SoCal, I paid $400 for my wheel and Airbag. The one pictured above I purchased for another member on this board, that one cost $500. I got a dual stage for a member of bimmerboard for $440 with airbag. The going rate for a wheel and airbag is somewhere between $400-600, just depends on your negotiating skills and how bad the yard wants to sell something.

What adapter do you have? I have an aftermarket deck also and would love to control it with the steering wheel.

Says that those will not work for my radio.. :-(
m5james 03-15-2008, 01:54 AM I thought they covered just about every make and model of decks? If not, maybe time for an upgrade/change, or just hold the remote in the old factory cellphone holder, either spot worked, like I did. I always put the remote in the front, had a bottle of Carmex there for use and to keep it from sliding under the spring loaded release for the old phone. I then placed my Treo on the spring loaded part because it has that nice little patch of rubber there to keep it from shooting into the dash when I hit the brakes, and the charger inlet plugs perfectly into the bottom w/ the rest of the phone holder getting in the way.
neoman 03-15-2008, 08:16 AM car looks beautifull. well done. love the colour too
m5james 03-15-2008, 11:46 AM Does look good btw, sorry for
dophineh 03-15-2008, 12:09 PM M5james, speaking of which, I gotta see more picts of your interior, I've never really seen it.
And how is the 5% tint working for you? I wanted it, but was afraid...
m5james 03-15-2008, 12:11 PM Give me your email or else I have to reduce their size to post theme here. Ive also removed all the chrome strips off my car and have started to paint them a black metalic color that matches the front window trim ;)
