View Full Version : How many miles per tank wolffbimmer 03-04-2008, 05:34 PM How many miles per tank are e38 owners getting. mojocoggo 03-04-2008, 05:37 PM Last time I actually recorded it I got about 310 with 70% city 30% highway driving. burn740i 03-04-2008, 05:41 PM About 450. I refill when I get to a half tank. theysellcoke 03-04-2008, 05:45 PM If I run soley on motorways, then I can get about 500 miles, the range on the OBC will climb to 550ish, but I never chance running the fuel right down. If I run around town I guess I'll get between 250-300 miles. Quite often I have to do a 550 mile drive & it costs me £80 (roughly 80 litres), I always top up with an extra £20 somewhere during the trip, but I reckon if pushed, the BM would get me home again on 1 tank. Funnily enough, on the last 550 miler, I didn't use the 730i, I used a 1.6ltr Mitsubishi, although I didn't relish the trip using the Mitsubishi, I consoled myself with the thought that I might save £25 or more on fuel. I saved £5 after 550 miles - I was gobsmacked, £5 for all the extra luxury & peace afforded by my BM & It's 3ltr V8! There's no contest is there. Cheers, TSC. heifetz17 03-04-2008, 07:23 PM About 450. I refill when I get to a half tank. How do you get 450 on a half tank? I can't even manage that going 70 on the interstate! I get between 280 and 320 in town depending on how I drive. Plust I only live a couple miles from work, so my engine has just warmed up by the time I get there, so my mileage isn't the greatest. Abdullah740 03-04-2008, 07:30 PM 300miles, but thats because Im in a cityish area. But what kills me is the 15 mile stretch of I-95 that cuts through DE. Those 15 miles are a temptation for my foot. wolffbimmer 03-04-2008, 07:57 PM I hope i can get 400. i dont see it very likely though, im at exactly 50 miles and im right above the first mark on the gas gauge Boston Killer 03-04-2008, 08:02 PM How do you get 450 on a half tank? I can't even manage that going 70 on the interstate! Ahem...he has a smaller engine ;) Helps getting more miles per similarly-sized tank...:D I used to get 250-300mi/tank in my 01 740i Sport. I now get around 300 from my VW GTi, but with a 14.5gal tank, not 22.5. But I miss my 7 every day :( :help victoriabmw27 03-04-2008, 10:25 PM Im getting about `11mpg right now. So you can do the math, its bad, really bad. Of course its all city driving, and when the weather is this bad its going to get bad on mileage board57796 03-05-2008, 01:03 AM I get about 280-300 on a tank with HARD driving. I have, on one occasion, gotten 600 miles from one tank with 11 left on the range after a road trip from UT to CO. sureshmysore 03-05-2008, 01:26 AM 18.3 miles/gallon on a 2007 750IL - since temp dropped to -20 In summer it was closer to 20m/g Abdullah740 03-05-2008, 01:33 AM I hope i can get 400. i dont see it very likely though, im at exactly 50 miles and im right above the first mark on the gas gauge Are those tis07? No they look like this TIS's but they are KMC Dimes burn740i 03-05-2008, 09:44 AM How do you get 450 on a half tank? I can't even manage that going 70 on the interstate! I get between 280 and 320 in town depending on how I drive. Plust I only live a couple miles from work, so my engine has just warmed up by the time I get there, so my mileage isn't the greatest. I get 450 on a full tank, I refill once a week, which is about a half tank. Ahem...he has a smaller engine ;) Helps getting more miles per similarly-sized tank...:D A smaller engine than who? We have the exact same size engine. You're the one with the 4 banger :D And how did you only see 300mi per tank? Someones got a lead foot :) CaptHerb 03-05-2008, 10:07 AM I get 450 on a full tank, I refill once a week, which is about a half tank. A smaller engine than who? We have the exact same size engine. Oh and I should mention I never really fill it past 1/4 unless I am doing a roadie. Which I haven't recently. burn740i 03-05-2008, 02:06 PM Doing anything this weekend dophineh? CaptHerb 03-05-2008, 02:13 PM His brakes? :rofl ...... Sorry i had to :shifty jets2vettes 03-05-2008, 05:19 PM 97 740il with 114K, I typically get between 290-325 per tank depending on the traffic. A recent road trip to florida over 2,500 miles I averaged 25 mpg including 80 mph interstate driving. Great range on the highway, per the computer it was over 500 miles. Boston Killer 03-05-2008, 07:13 PM A smaller engine than who? We have the exact same size engine. My bad, I thought the car in reference was theysellcoke's. He's got a 730i. Apologies all around. :confused You're the one with the 4 banger :D Well, I recently chipped the 'four-banger' and it now produces 250bhp and 282lb/ft of torque. :redspot Now, I have a 3200-lbs vehicle that comfortably outruns direct competitors and beyond. Just this morning I raced (succesfully) a brand-new Infiniti G35S. Impressive...:alright And how did you only see 300mi per tank? Someones got a lead foot :) Whatever I did, I averaged right around 15mpg. In the end I was OK with that - I was after all having lots of fun :D sweet7 03-05-2008, 10:58 PM been trying to keep her in the driveway during the winter / snow months but since my work car has a CEL light on and has a terrible sputter, I have been exercising my e32. Typical is 300 - 330 per tank (with 30 - 80 miles till empty), if majority hwy, I'll actually get 360 - 385. When I use premium gas, the OBC calculates 510 - 540 /tank. Just turned 118K miles, needs minor work valve cover gaskets, coolant change, brake fluid change, power steering hose leak(s). Typical average has been around 17.4-17.6 /gallon. burn740i 03-05-2008, 11:13 PM My bad, I thought the car in reference was theysellcoke's. He's got a 730i. I'd like to play around with my 7 a little more, but I've been easy on it, and will continue to be easy on it until next weekend when I get all my leaks sorted out. I'm currently leaking oil, coolant, and power steering fluid :woot: backinblack98 03-06-2008, 04:26 PM Highway going 80, I get about 480 to the tank before my range light comes on! smg101166 03-06-2008, 04:52 PM I got about 500 even on a tank driving back from Fl to CT and it took about 22 gallons when I filled it. I am not sure how much it will hold but I think I was empty. I am only 5/8 in to my first tank around town with about 15% highway and I am not disappointed at all so far. I do think gas is different in parts of the US as well. Up in the North east we have additives at certain times of the year. What and when I am no expert but I bet someone here knows. My v8 euro hemi still gets better mileage than my 6 cyl Grand Cherokee. dophineh 03-06-2008, 05:23 PM Doing anything this weekend dophineh? This weekend is the beginning of spring break for me. So I will be in the U.K. visiting my old roommate. I have so many mods to do... JimmyBones 03-06-2008, 11:53 PM Highway going 80, I get about 480 to the tank before my range light comes on! Same here with the 93 740 but I still have about 50 more miles on top of that.;) backinblack98 03-07-2008, 10:55 AM Same here with the 93 740 but I still have about 50 more miles on top of that.;) That sounds about right. The range will show something like that at that point on mine too! It makes for a great road trip if you are travelling with people that dont need bathroom breaks... Atlanta to Cincinatti none stop baby!! burn740i 03-07-2008, 11:01 AM We drive to Michigan every year in August for the world's largest car show and cruise. I should be able to do the whole trip, there and back, including cruising and all my driving there, on about 4 tanks. That's about 1600 miles not including the driving while I'm there. We usually take my Dad's E46 M3, but this year I'll be taking mine too. His can go for about 350 miles per tank. msimp227 03-09-2008, 08:31 AM I've never used Shell gas in the 750 before, but last week I filled up with their V-Power 93 octane and got 25mpg on the highway doing about 75mph. 22 is the best mileage I've ever gotten before that. That being said - the tank will last 500+ miles. Bigg Fella 03-09-2008, 10:39 AM wow, I want to be like some of you guys, I can get at least 250 if I drive like normal folks. Unfortunately....lol. I've been doing much better with that lately though wolffbimmer 03-09-2008, 01:29 PM hey big fella im not gettin the best either lol. im at 130 with half tank. =[ msimp227 03-09-2008, 09:13 PM I'm no grandpa - I'm only 35, so I get on the throttle a few times per tank. I wonder if climate has anything to do with gas mileage? Since I've owned my car, I've averaged almost 18mpg with mostly in town driving. It seems like ya'll {with extra southern drawl} northerners are getting poor mileage - also, do they add stuff to your gas up there for pollution control? AwesomeIsLuke 03-09-2008, 09:22 PM Colder weather = worse fuel economy victoriabmw27 03-09-2008, 09:23 PM ^I wish i was as smart as you Luke! AwesomeIsLuke 03-09-2008, 09:30 PM ^I wish i was as smart as you Luke! What can I say, I have my moments :D Bigg Fella 03-11-2008, 01:20 AM hey big fella im not gettin the best either lol. im at 130 with half tank. =[ really sucks doesn't it? Add on top of that, she seems to be running a little smoother and better and is just jumping when I LOOK at the go pedal hard. lol I know that's not helping one bit. 20inchchromes 03-15-2008, 08:25 AM in the UK petrol is about £1.05 per litre, hence I had to opt for a 728i... filled a tank cost me £85... got through half of it and the distance covered so far is 280 miles... adilSD 03-15-2008, 12:10 PM I average 22mpg since I bought the car and drive in the city, avg 35mph. I am happy with this since my other cars are worse. 1987 560sl avg 14mpg, 1996 Audi A6 18 mpg. Adil mobinakhtar 03-15-2008, 08:16 PM Latest round trip to to Lafayette, LA from Houston, TX. SBK740 03-16-2008, 06:08 AM 98 740iL, averaged 9.2L/100km (25.5 MPG) on 900km highway drive (varying speeds and also quite a few stop offs) and average about 15L/100km with mostly city driving (90%). john1806 03-16-2008, 02:10 PM i WANT TO SAY ABOUT 300-320. i commute over the altamont (10-15mpg uphill) 2 days a week and the rest i only live about 3 minutes from work so its just warming up by the time i get there. this 1988 735i 3.5l inline 6 get the same mileage my 1995 toyota avalon with 3.4 V6 did!! KKJ 03-16-2008, 02:14 PM '97 735 Town driving lots stop and start 350 miles on 80L not a lot but it's comfortable!!!!!! willbodnar 03-16-2008, 03:47 PM 350 to 450 depending if i'm running city or highway, respectively pugads650 03-16-2008, 08:45 PM about 10 mpg should have a bought a hummer shit. |
