I'm going to put some angel eyes on my seven in the next couple of weeks and wondered if it would be worth it trying to buff/polish the scratches out of my old plastic lenses or just replace them. I know they're normally in the 200$ range to replace, but there are a few on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-01-BMW-OE-Headlight-Lens-Set-740i-740iL-750iL-E38_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33709QQihZ004QQitem Z140212479660QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

that are dirt cheap. Unfortunately the sellers' feedback rating is like a 96 (i have a steadfast rule about buying from ANYONE less than a 98% positive rating)

I highly doubt those are the HELLA OEM's, but they look good, and that's something I'll probably end up doing. You should be teh guinea pig and let us know how they work out :D

When you do your A.E.'s Don't forget to order new lens gaskets. These can deteriorate and break apart when opening your headlights.
They are like $10

IMHO, just pick up a bottle of Meguires Plastx and buff your existing lens's up.
I've seen this stuff do amazing things. You can wet sand too if you really want to bring them back.

If you buy the cheap non OEM lens. You'll be regretting it when a rock goes right thru it and totals your xenon assembly and you have to replace it.

my .02 Cents

i had the same problem on my old car and i polished them up and it removed most fine scratches and left the deep ones but for sure it makes them look a bit better for sale lol

Your lenses are plastic? Mine are glass. I thought they all were glass?

95-98 = Glass
99-01 = Plastic

Buy new Hella ones IMO

Anyone know if there's a glass replacement for the 99-01 lamps?

Thanks Lex.
I ordered the gaskets this morning.

My advice with the AE kit would be to be patient and go slow. If you rush it, it will come out like sheet and you'll probably break a ring like I did.

Any recommendations where to pickup a new set of lens covers and gaskets? I saw the plastic ones on ebay, but would prefer to get a set of glass ones to replace.

99-01 lenses are plastic OEM. Go to realoem.com

No, that is just a price guide.

The plastic ones i'm sure you'd probably be able to polish out unless they're pitted to hell. Just get one of those buffing wheels that Chip Foose sponsors from Schucks and have at it, then get the clear plastic film over them so you don't have to do it again down the road.
