I've searched on this topic and couldn't find any prior discussion, so here goes.
How much and how hard would it be to change a convertible top on a 2004 M3. The car I'm buying is silver with a blue top, and I want a black top. The blue top is not a deal breaker, but I just want to know if its possible.
Thanks for any info you can give me.

I've heard (rumors & lies) something IVO $3k for a new top, but I haven't researched it.

I have an e36 and an e46 M3 convertibles...I have only had to replace the one on the 98 M3 (which is a bigger top) and the dealer wanted $2400 for the top plus labor and I went to an upholstery shop that dealed in convertible tops and they ordered me an oem one and put it on for around $1400.....so with labor you are looking to spend anwhere from $1400 up........
I am not a fan of blue tops either

Thanks for the input. Thats alot better than I thought it would be. I'm sure if I got it entirely through the stealership it would be shocking....

I recently had my 2004 in for an emissions recall (something on the SMG, which is remarkably smoother in auto mode now), but while it was in I mentioned that two of the rear defroster elements were not working. They replaced the entire top to fix it. Under warranty.
