car ran fine. backed it out. turned it off. removed drivers door panel(done this many times with no problems) to snap connector which was interfering with up and down operation of window back into bracket. put panel back with no difficulty and checked window and door operation. all was good. but voila, now the car would not crank. the dash display showed E only in all gears. wiggled the selector side to side to see if neutral safety switch was slightly out of adjustment. car won't crank in P R or 1 2 3. per other board i disconnected batteries and checked fuses #17and #12. #12 was blown. i reconnected batteries after 1 hour and replaced #12. Fuse #12 blew again and no crank. i checked and saw mirror and control switch are on the #12 circuit. but the mirrors still work even w/o fuse. there must be a short somewhere but where and why just "out of the blue" starter was acting normally before quick and no drag. i am stumped. HELP!!!

The shifter didn't some how disconnect from the tranny? I know, But it will cause no cranking if not knowing it's in gear, Fuse on the passenger side next to the battery OK? Battery's nice and charged up?

batteries are charged. is that a fusible link back there on passenger battery? i have not seen it, but i have not looked either i think the shifter is in proper position. the parking paul (sp?) seems to be holding car firmly. the #12 fuse is what i do not get. thank you for your concern and input. i think you and i are the only ones inside and online
