View Full Version : Does anyone NOT like the montego blue?

First off let me say i'm not intending to offend anyone....I think the e92 looks great in any color. But there have been alot of people drooling over the montego blue and I just don't get it. Is it because they're different? They look ok in the pics I see here I guess but when I saw one on the road the other day I was underwhelmed.

Am I the only one who doesn't love the montego?

I'm not a Montego fanboi but I do think Montego looks great on the E92/E93, but not so much on the E90/E91.

I'm just tired of seeing so many silver, black, or white cars on the road, especially the previous generation and current 3-series. I like blue, but montego blue is really nice looking and because it's metallic, it looks shiny and the tone of the color looks different from different angles and during different times of the day, whether it's sunny or cloudy out and also at night. It's also not difficult to keep looking clean, unlike most dark colors or even white. When I got mine during the middle of 2007, it was actually a rare color to find, but it seems it's becoming a little more popular. I'm very pleased with the color and never wish I had a different color.

Montego attracts the most attention for a number of reasons. First, much like Sparkling Graphite, it is a complex metallic color, as its appearance can be radically different depending on the light source. Since it attracts attention and related strong opinions, it is a risky color. Too boyish, too purple, too bright, blah blah blah... There are many who would not buy a Montego because of this reason, making it a differentiated choice of color. It is not a color for those who are insecure about themselves or their car. I love mine!

I think it looks good, but it is one of those colors that I believe I would grow tired after a few months.

I'm a big fan of Montego Blue... All of my favorites have been some variation of blue... Estoril, Le Mans, Montego, etc... Montego Blue is definitely my favorite active color.

Why's that?

Color is a personal preference. I think the blue is blah, like all the other colors from white to black and everything in between. Red was the only one I was interested in!!

I like the monaco blue more than the montego. But around Boston, everyone has a silver, or a black or a blue. I wanted to try something differnt that I have not seen around here, so I went with the deep green metallic. It looks looks dark green when its overcast, and brilliant emerald when the sun is out!

The dark colors on the 335 hide the beautiful lines of the car I think, My silver 335 looks like it has a whole different body compared to the dark green, blue or black. Nothing against those colors, they just dont do justice to the body lines.

I like the monaco blue more than the montego.

No doubt! Monaco was actually my first choice but decided against it due to detailing issues.

It's funny how everyone says there are so many silvers yet when I went to pick up my car (silver) at the dealer the other day it was the only silver 335/328 there. There were a few blacks, and a few grays, along with 2 Monaco blues. Plus I mostly see black or gray on the road, not many silvers.

Besides my car, I have yet to see another silver 335, many montego blues, blacks, whites and space grays. Actually I rarely see 335's. Mostly 328's and 528's. Ive only seen 1 other 335 coupe since nov

Yeah i've only seen 1 335 on the road myself....a decent amount of 328's though.

Bah. I've been driving estoril and montego cars quite rapidly here for close to 10 years and haven't had an issue. I think the whole "color ___ is inviting tickets" thing is BS. No trooper's going to confuse a 335 with a Camry just because it's silver.

I've had cops spot me from 3-4 miles away when I had my e36 bright red and they'd drive up to me and pace me. I agree about not mistaking a car for another, but it is a fact that brighter colors (esp. yellow, red and blue) are more visible and distinctive (thus the color of fire trucks, sirens, etc) and make you an easier target. If you drive the speed limit all the time, it is a moot point anyway. Not an excuse to stay away from bright colors, but just something to keep in mind.

P.S. Hope you knocked on wood, you wouldn't want to jinx yourself, from my trips through CT, I recall that your state troopers are very tricky and clever and those fake transponders make a radar detector practically useless if not darn annoying.

Colors do stand out, so you are more likely to get noticed.

But I love Montego, and I think the Red is great too. I wanted a color for this car, but ended up with black since it was the only one around with 6MT. I like black, but color is nice every now and then

I do know if I buy black again, I'm just going to run myself over with it at the dealer and save me the trouble...good it's a pain in the ass and shows EVERY freaking flaw. If you're anal about paint...don't get black.

i'll be purchasing a 335xi soon and was curious to know if anyone has a picture of their own in the sparkling gray metallic, because personally i know someone that has it in blue even though i love my topaz on my 330. I was looking for a change of pace, either the sparkling gray, black, or possibly sticking with the vibrant blues. Any suggestions??

I picked mine up at Brecht in San Diego on 7 December, and it was the only Blue Montego on the lot. In SD, every other car is a BMW, and since then I've seen only one other 335 in Montego, ever.

Coupe or Sedan? If sedan, here's a couple pictures of my Sparkling Graphite 335i Sedan. Visually, the XI only changes the wheels and ever-so-slightly the ride height so it should still give you a good idea.

It looks SO much better just with the new black lines...
Where did you buy them, by the way? Curious as to what you paid for them too. I've seen them at Tischer BMW (online) for $235, free shipping, no tax - and at Morristown BMW (they've got an e-Bay store also) for $225 +$15 shipping, no tax.
Thanks.

He's speaking of my rear taillights that have the smoked lenses and replace the turn signal with smoked (with amber bulb) instead of red/red.

I got them from Pacific BMW back in early 2007 before BMW raised the price of the blacklines. I paid $211 shipped at that time. Since then they've raised the price, but I've heard they can still be found for around $250 or so.

I've had that last rear angle photo of your car on my desktop for a few weeks now. It looks just like my car, except you've got some really awesome wheels and tires and it looks lowered by at least an inch. I wouldn't want any other color, except maybe white or black.

In my opinion I think it really makes the car stand out in the crowd !

I agree w/ other posters and have said for a while that more than half the cars you see on the road are some shade of gray or silver. I love the titanium silver, I think it's the nicest silver I have seen, but I didn't get it b/c I'm so sick of that color. It's everywhere you look. And any grey color is just blaah. Especially for a car as beautiful as a 335i, gray is just boring and doesn't do the car justice. I had a red 98' 328i and I never got a ticket. I recently read an article that put to bed the notion that red cars get more tickets and that insurance companies charge more. It's simply not true. Which is good since I just ordered a 335i coupe in crimson red. Red is my favorite color especially for a sports car.

I understand the argument behind liking montego blue bc its not black, silver, etc... I think it's a great color, and looks great on any 3, but for me there's nothing that can compare to metallic black. Surprisingly, I've only seen a few sedan and one coupe on the road with it though...then again, it's not the color of choice down here in Texas where the summers are brutally hot and long...

But I digress... I ordered my 335i coupe just last week in metallic black, and I can't wait to get it. I drooled all over one of the metallic black floor models at the Austin dealership while I was still shopping...any doubts I had about getting a black car were washed away that very moment.

It appears after reading through this thread that my suspicions are correct. It seems most like the color because it's different more than anything else. I can see why that would make it attractive. I don't agree with the whole silver thing though because as I stated earlier, I haven't seen many 335's (or 328's for that matter) in silver at all. Are lots of other cars silver...sure...but they're not the e90 series 3! In my opinion the best color by far for this model with the added bonus of it looking clean even when it's not.

My Montego 335 really does attract a bit too much attention--from everyone. I think even police....and that could be a bad thing. In a sea of silver/gray/tan/white vehicles on the road, my blue car stands out like a beacon.

Red is a cop magnet, trust me, I had red car for 12+ years, and esp. in the BMW, they loved to come after me even when driving normally. You get no breaks with red when you are not driving like a grandpa, you are picked even if there are faster cars around. Don't get me wrong, I love red, but grew tired of all the unwanted attention.

Montego = hard to keep clean unless you plan on washing it at least 2-3 times a week.

Personally I like Tit. Silver as well, since its easy to keep clean.. and like other people said, it shows the lines of the car more distinctly.

Plus, I remember when I was younger, I heard a rumor that cops don't pull silver colored cars over as much since the silver can sometimes blend with the freeway or pavement or some crap like that.. which makes it look like you aren't going as fast. or something.

It'd be worth it with that color.

The whole cops favoring/targeting certain car colors thing is false... Including that red cars get more tickets than others.
