All,
I looked at a used 335 sport last night that had only 1300 miles. That said, the outer shoulder of the RF tire was toast! Car had major alignment problems and/or was run severely under inflated.
It got me to thinking, as a teenager I probably ran my tires under inflated for 6 month periods well beyond 1300 miles with no real negative impact. I'm curious what type of mileage people are getting on the RFT's. I did a search and didn't see much on this topic.
Thanks in advance.

I've got the stock sport package 18 inch Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RunFlats with about 15,500 miles on them. I think I can make it through the summer, as I'm down to about 50% tread. I was a little worried about this winter on them, but they did better than expected on snow and ice. Still, I will not buy them again. I think I'll switch to non-RFT 17 inch tires for a better ride.

Bad alignment will wear your tires quickly on any car, esp. one that is driven hard like a BMW. RFT or sports tires probably have nothing to do with this extreme condition. That being said, the alignment settings (esp. negative camber) on BMWs usually tend to produce more wear on the outer sides of the tire that with most other cars, but normal alignment settings will not produce such premature wear even for underinflated tires IMO. Ask for new tires and an alignment check at the dealer with a report like this (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12243268&postcount=1) before buying it.

I know when I got my car, I didn't check the tire pressure until months later. And I discovered the pressure was down quite a bit in all tires. It was like the car was delivered with low tire pressure. After taking delivery of a new E9x, I'd check the tire pressure.

It depends on how you drive, my car is just a 328i nonsport (with the 205/55/R16 Bridgestone EL42s) and being 17 I burned through my rears (almost to the point of them beginning to come apart, they were completely smooth) in under 8,000 miles. Now I have the Continentals in the rear and I'm definitely going to make them last.
