when i start my 840 it makes a whirring sound at low revs, but as i increase the revs it begins to disappear.it then comes back at lower revs.it does not seem to be effected by the steering.it gradually disappears the longer i drive.thanks.

Cool! If it's not the Pentosin causing the noise, Check both fans up front, Could be the clutch is seized or the electric fan staying on too long. They give a strange sound when not working correctly.

I had a noise in the front of my car a few weeks back and it turned out to be dry leaves in the front fan..Just a wild guess, but check for that..

Could it be the AC compressor?

...could also be the sound of the money-meter resetting itself...
