Just Picked up an 03' with 100k on it....Can hear a humming coming from the drivers side front end. Its a consistent noise not getting any louder with higher speeds....Just wondering if anyone has experienced this noise before?

I hear a little noise when the a/c is on, but once I switch it off it stops.

Hi driz6... I have heard a sound of late that sounds like a very subtle chatter that is more discernable in 2/3rd gears and rpms around 3k neighborhood. I brought the car into my local dealer and they initially heard the sound on the lift . They told me to drive it at high rpms and to come back in a week. Well the noise was/is still there but they could not find it upon my return. Long story short , I am now driving 300 mi. to get the car serviced at a more qualified dealer. The right cv boot was found to be cracked and the axle and nut need to be replaced. I called my dealer when the locals told me I was out of warranty and wanted $800 to replace it. I am still under warranty and my dealer is going to replace it at no charge.
Anyway , I am hoping that the noise I am hearing is the cv joint after all is said and done. I have 78k for your guide.
Not knowing whatthe sound is spurred me to do a little digging and there was some input regarding the oil seperator failing. I did find a yellowish viscous syrup onthe underside of the oil cap.
If I receive a better result at my reliable dealer I will forward the info
