The 1st time I got to drive my 95 530I I kept hearing a definate suspension knock over every little bump. I raised it on a lift and saw that the drag link was worn out and the right pitman arm socket was letting the arm bounce up and down, so I replaced the drag link. Then I go on a drive and have the same noise. Going down the freeway is nice, but once on even a semi-smooth road in city I get this horrible knocking sound that seems to come from all across the front end, meaning not eminating from just one side. Are there any common things I should be looking for that the 530I's are notorious for?

control arms, tie rods, and sway bar links. all e34s are need to have them replaced at one point of their lives, the bushings and ball joints on those parts wear out.

I had the same problem on my 94 530i. Sway bar links did the trick.
