When car sits, under cold conditions, and I start up I have severe pentosin leakage an then refill ....but griding noise persists..... this happened last fall but after refilling, it dissappeared. Not this time , seems like ABS is OK but Power steering is still grinding and not :help:helpresponsive.
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

Well I will fix the pentosin leak first, right? As for the Power Steering being not responsive, what does it mean? No longer works or just makes grinding noises? Does the Pentosing looks clean in the reservoir? There is also a filter that fits in the bottom of the Pentosin reservoir that most likely is the original one and it will require replacement.
I will start with those items first before you claim the power steering pump dead....

Where is the leak? If it at the pump then it could be sucking air thru the pump. That would make noise.

Thanks Guys,

An obvious leak , probably a clamp. Will check it out and get back.

COLD weather causes problems with old parts ....older clamps give out

before you consider a bad pump and if you dont want to spend money right now , give it a shot and get a pint of Seafoam (poer steering and tranny kind) and follow the inst. I used it on a 2001 corolla making this noise and it was amazing how quite it is now.

What sort of grinding is it? I had sort of a low hard rubber sound grind that would show up after a little bit of driving. That turned out to be a worn out idler arm and drag link for me (and I think someone else mentioned the same problem as well when I was trying to figure it out).
