Peak of 328rwhp @ 4.7psi
Peak of 299rwtq @ 3.0psi

http://www.turbochargingdynamics.com/video/540SC.wmv

SAE numbers 3% lower due to cold ambient temps.

The potential of this motor is pretty amazing considering the paltry amount of boost and inefficient way it is being delivered.

I am ordering a smaller pulley today to bump the boost 2psi. I'll be happy in the 365-370rwhp range.

Dinan non intercooled setup and TCD exhaust. Auto tranny. Otherwise stock.

Not much of a torque boost, but 70 hp from 5 psi is pretty darned impressive. Based on some of the other M60B40 dynos, it looks like ~40 lb-ft.

Still, like you said, given the minimal boost and the method of delivery, it would seem there is a lot of potential in the motor.

What would it take from a tuning standpoint to supercharge the m60 without buying a kit? Seems like it wouldn't be too difficult. A lot less plumbing than building a turbo kit from scratch..

I would agree but it's not exactly easy. The bracket and crank hub pulley are the two biggest obstacles.

This an automatic car. I think it is reasonable to think that it would dyno at 240/250 stock.

I bet you could just buy a chip from someone like ESS... otherwise get Goathumper to get the m60 megasquirt rolling.

very impressive #'s from low boost and an automatic. I would think the autos are putting down 240ish at the wheels..??..

I am going to install MS in this car if/when I build a single turbo for it.

I'm sure that if/when that happens I will be part of the bidding war for your s/c.

Whats that at the crank with out drivetrain loss ~360bhp or more because its an auto ?

Pretty darn good for a none intercooled, low boost off the shelf generic tune.

Any plans to tweek the tuning before raising boost to see what you can reliably get out of her.

If there's no space for an aftercooler what about water/meth injection? Not the same I know but it helps, no?

It's totally reliable. It's been on the car since 1997!

There really is no space to add an intercooler and WI isn't a good idea without having control of the tune and adding timing.

I am sure the +2psi will keep me happy until I can decide how to turbo charge it.

My guess at crank HP is ~380to 390.

I love Boostjunky logic :stickoutt:D

There is just about space for a turbo, lol

356rwhp/373rwt @ 8psi

OT. Was it you that was working on full fuel control with chip tunes and if yes how did it go?

Please lrt me know on the turbo.I would be very interested, otherwise there is a company that is working on a T/S for the M60/62.

034 Motorsport made me a new chip for $600(with alittle help from Mark D).

Todd I found my old dyno from '04(Edge Motorworks Dyno jet)I was at 4 psi and old M60 engine. It was a Dinan kit with Unichip poor tune. After this dyno run Erik repalced the plugs and I gained 12 rwhp

Thanks for posting the dyno sheet. Looks right. Auto tranny consumes another ~5%.

Which is more fun, the M30 turbo or the M60 s/c?

Dinan non intercooled setup and TCD exhaust. Auto tranny. Otherwise stock. you need water and meth injection when running more boost , i am running 11.8 psi in my v6 Tacoma with fuel mods, eaton m62 blower and when i added the meth and water it gave me 30 more HP

There is no doubt that a m30 running 12/13psi is much more fun but I really enjoy the way the 540i drives.

It has absolutley the best transmission of any car I have ever driven. It's fantastic. Combined with the 3.46lsd it's a model of efficiency.

I sure wish I could put this tranny behind a m30 turbo!

Just watch out for the check ball failure, it has been a total pain to deal with so far. I'm going on my 3rd trans since apparently, the only guy in the entire US that can rebuild these things is Kurt at ASU. My original one lasted ~150k miles, but the two rebuilds I've gotten have had issues in less than 5k.

My m30 made 400rwtq at 3000rpm. My poor m60 had only like 1/2psi of boost at that rpm. A CF will never be a tq monster in comparison to it's HP on a m60/62.

No turbo it and actually have some boost at peak tq and it'll be a different story.

Sure a CF V8 is outstanding but it's not a m30 on big boost.
