My 335xi coupe is awaiting transportation so shortly I will need to decide on all the dealer add-on programs. I got the non-high performance staggered sport package - that is with the standard with the 17" 45 profile tires all around. I will be keeping the run flats at least until they wear out. I drive in coastal New England which has a lot of potholes.
My plan at this point is to buy an exact matching V-spoke 188 wheel and tire and unless trunk spare is critical for a particular trip, to keep that in the trunk as a spare. This would enable me to swap out one tire (that won't hold air) so it won't be run without air and thus should be repairable as long as the sidewall is sound.
My dealer sells the Safeguard for up to 5 years and covers all tires on the vehicles (presumably even non-BMW supplied ones). It covers repair or replacement if irreparable and the rim is the tire won't seal and related labor and parts costs.
There are threads which say if you have the road hazard insurance then the dealer will fix the tire, but if you don't they will insist it must be replaced. Also there doesn't seem to be any coverage for alternatives if a replacement tire or wheel is needed and none are immediately available (although with my plan for a spare this won't be an issue unless I blow more than one tire).
Do you think I should get a road hazard plan in addition to the full size matching spare?
Are there better (non-dealer) road hazard plans out there?
What is the level of need with a 45 profile tire versus the lower profile tires on 18 or 19" rims?
If a dealer won't repair my repairable tire, are there sufficient tires stores in New England that will?
If the sidewall is sound and a puncture not too close to it, do you agree that a RFT can and should be repaired? (With my prior cars I never have driven in excess of 80 mph.)
